But the terrier rough coats or wolly/cotton coats tend to stay the black. Here is a photo of my neutered pet - he is black and has a wooly coat. What a mess it is to groom! Mats even when you just groom him, so I keep him clipped down now. He is now 11 1/2 years old and still looks about the same - except a shorter coat. We had him neutered when he was young since we knew his coat and color was not to standard and did not want to breed for this.
I know everyone flips over him too. I couldn't stand the grooming. I just look at it and think about how much work it is. All the conditioners, knots, it stays dry and slow growing. Looking at that photo I see your labor & feel for you. Kudos to you for altering him to spare others of that happening.

She's still so young & she's not dark. She won't be dark. She will break a lovely color. Don't be surprised if she goes over 3 lbs either. This little one will be so spoiled her whole life. Isn't it fun to have the little one you always dreamed of? All yorkie moms should have that special one.

Which makes me wonder??? Has the person or people saying that the black coated one is better ever had the correct coat? The reason I ask; what are they comparing it too? Have they cared for a proper silk coat in the past?

Here is my darkie, she is 2 years and has not broken color, I think her coat is modified. It's a dream to manage, she only needs a brushing once per week and rarely knots. I personally like the dark, I wish her face was a deeper gold. Her breeder left her tail natural.

My baby is black and tan, and also has a cotton coat. I would much prefer the proper silky coat, it's so much more manageable. I've grown my girl's coat out to the floor, kept it up for a while, and then put her in a puppy clip. She looks very cute in a puppy coat, because her hair has a lot of volume due to its cotton"y" texture. I'm growing her hair out again, and it's halfway to floor length.

I would hope that no one would intentionally breed for a wooly/cotton coat. It can only harm the breed. I spay all my pet dogs, and my girl is having a great time in the rally ring.

I do get quite a few comments on her coat, people love it. But I think if they knew how hard it is to care for, and saw a beutiful silky steel blue coat, they'd reconsider.

Hi! I jst bought a gorgeous puppy, she wont make it to 5-6 pounds,I know my breeder sometimes has bigger pubs. My babie is champion sired.Her 1/2 brother is in rio going for his chaampionship My breeder has brazilaian llines and they ay are cobby with baby doll faces ,thick silk coats to the ground,hair to thr ground,playful,calm,please feel free to pm me for her info,

Oh I was looking for something else and found this. I have a yorkie mixed with Maltese. I just joined and trying to figure out all these sites and the emails they keep sending me.... I am new to computer also. It is alon story but I think you can see all my messages somewhere on this site. I have given a pretty good history Just posted a pic in the album area last night via my son. Long story short I have altered my little baby yorkie./maltese. But my friend who is vet where I got baby lives in RI. Shermantown. If intersted and willing to travel for puppy let me know. I will see if she is still breeding. She should be retired but is still helping everyone... Her mother used to laugh and say she would wind up a bag lady.... Let me know.

She is dark black with tan legs and around neck and some on her face. Her mother was mixed yorkie/maltese and I bred mother back to yorkie to get the soft hair and round eyes. MY son put her picture in the album area last night. I could not get the ones I wanted to load. Her hair is a wavey and soft. It does not tangle and I keep it 2-3 inches long for cleanliness. We have some land they can get out and roam.& they do... Full of everything. Yorkie/maltese little ones get tangles. I will put pics of all 4 once I figure it all out. Got an Apple and trying to get used to it all. Thanx for patience.Poohbear &

Hi I just noticed your post for black and tan yorkie's. Its funny years ago when I first started breeding yorkie's I dealt with the Heiddy Webster line which is mainly black and tan. But, most people were looking for the tri or silver colors so i started bringing in more of that in the Tiffany lines. Now when I breed my black and tan females they sell immediately out. Too funny! My girlfriend has one of my black and tan females Miss Molly and she is due next month. I have a boy from her last litter who is totally adorable with a nice silk coat. We live in Maryland if interested I could let her no.

Hi there my black and tan is in heat now. I am planning on breeding her in the next few days. If all goes well I will have puppies available around the first of July. My girlfriend that was breeding her lost her litter.

You have to wait and watch to be sure you have a black and tan. One really does not know forsure if they have a balck and tan yorkie till the yorkie is over 3 years of age. I have seen some that broke right up to the last minute.

I don't get the short leg wide body part? Are you sure you are thinking about a Yorshire Terrier? His body should be nicely cut, compact. legs are graceful, not at all short in reference to the body

My Chanel has that type of coat and I love it. I got her from a breeder in brazil who told me most of the yorkies in brazil and argentina are dark colored.

Hunter was black and tan. He had short legs and wide and was about 3 pounds when fit. He was from Houston. He was 15 when he died in November but maybe some of his kin is still out there producing. So, maybe there's hope. :)

I bred my black and tan....she is due in another month and a half or so. All my line started from a black and tan show breeder named Heiddy Webster. Than I started introducing other Champion Lines for the different looks and features. So, now I get a variety of colors, sizes, coats in most of my litters whether the Mom is black and tan or not. It is always a wait and see what features and look each baby will have. I love it!!! I have a black and tan boy for sale now. He is totally fat and squatty ready to just morph in your arm all day if he could. He is certainly no slim pickings but hairy and cute as all get out. A real snuggler those fat ones always are.LOL!

I have a yorkie that had yorkie father and mother that was yorkie/maltese. She is beautiful black/tan on legs and little around face and some at bottom of ears. She is a 6#er and is short legs, chunky and wide. I think my son put one of her pictures on our site. Her nose is short and ears almost stand up. Dependig on how long the hair is on them. Her black hair is glossy, soft and has a wave in the hip and down back. her eyes are big and bright. The vets are always saying how they love her eyes. There were 7 puppies and she stayed like a puppy and the others changed. I looked in the box one day and she was so different from the rest. She still has the puppy look at 7 years old. I don;t know much about breeding but somehow maybe another breed gets stuck into the mix somewhere. Everyone even the vets think she is a full yorkie until I tell them.

My god daughter (yes she's a yorkie) and her mommy are both BLACK and tan.
