While I totally respect your right to your opinion I think you might be confused with the difference between breeding a small male versus a small female.

The fact is that responsible breeders use smaller males all the time to get the smaller yorkies which are so desired. Most people would agree that it is not responsible to breed a small female (under 5 lbs), but I have never heard anyone say it was irresponsible to breed a small male.

And we all know there is no AKC classification for a teacup yorkie, but the term is used most often when referring to a dog who is below the breed standard in weight as an adult. It is a common way to refer to size in a way that everyone can relate too, that's all. No one is using the term "teacup" to imply that AKC has added that classification. This owner only used the term once and it was in reference to the dog's size. She never called him a "purebred teacup yorkie" as you implied. I did not find the way she described him throughout the thread to be offensive.

I think she deserves to get what the dog is worth when she sells him and she sounded like she was attempting to explain her rationale for the price and most breeders will tell you that the smaller dogs, whether used as a stud or simply a neutered pet, are more valuable than the breed standard or larger because people want small. I see nothing wrong with that as long as they are healthy.

I don't see where anyone was condoning irresponsible breeding habits in my opinion.

I don't believe that AKC sets a minimum weight for Yorkies, only a maximum of 7 lbs.

I guess the minimum weight could be 1lb, but how would want a dog that small? and who would breed a dog that small to get other dogs that small? its just stupid.

The AKC standard states a yorkie should be between 3 & 7 lbs, i think it's either 3 or 4.

That is SOO the case in my house. Sultan, my Stellar Prince is a wonderful house pet that gets to have fun a couple times a year ..hee hee. Seriously, he is more well behaved than my females. He is always allowed to run free in the house, the girls all stay in the Kitchen. I have to put panties on some of my girls before I let them loose because the mark; some even lift their leg ..ROFLLL..this is not a joke either. I think hobby breeders like myself and Rini and Beth and a few others I can't think of right off hand, treat out Yorkies just like pets , but the boys have perks! Get it..hahaha

Well just wanted to let you know that my lil guy found a home with Mrs. Dottie in NH. She wanted a small pet and was happy to ad him to her family... She used to raise German Shepards but was ready for something small. She only wants him as a pet so I am happy he is in home were he will be taken care of............. As to FLAKES comment.... He is a small dog but I have never encouraged anything that would be irresponsible about my pet. He is small and hobby breeders or people who breed toy animals look for that because people like small dogs. AKC does not have a teacup yorkie and I am aware of that... The word wac used as a description.... he is small. But if he is bred to another yorkie it would not be irresponsible as long as the mom dad and puppies are well taken care of, doctered if need be, and put in homes where they would be loved... If he was a sick dog or had a disease THEN IT WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE. As for neutering him, I received at least 10 emails from this place alone saying not to do that to him, there nothing wrong with him and he is as happy as can be. When he went to Mrs. DOttie I told her he had never sireds a litter but it didn't mean he wasn't capable...But she didn't care she only wanted a yorkie to love on...and she preferred a smaller than usual one. Thats her preference and she has every rigt to have it. And to her a pet that small may be worth more that it might to someone else. WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN opinions. We should knock each other for having them. As for the two saying I contradicting myself... read the post again --- I said I got him as a pet but pretty much left my options open to get a female and breed him but I never did because I didn't want to.... there is nothing wrong with getting a pet YOU LOVE and TAKE CARE OF, and then maybe down the line want to get another to let him have a mate..... I believe thats pretty much what a Hobby Breeder is. Just one or two to have puppies but knowing their pet, lloving it and taking care of it, and maybe having a litter of puppies once a year. It doesn't mean you don't care for your animals. In the end i decided on not getting him a mate because i probalbly couldn't of handled it so i didn't. If i had THEN YOU CAN SAY I was IRRESPONSIBLY breeding them because I wouldn't have been able to take care of all of them properly.
