| Show in Monroe, MI at the end of September?!? Just wondering if anyone from YT is going to be the show in Monroe, MI in a few weeks...or if anyone has been there in the past years?!? Is it generally a big show?? I think I am going to attend...as a spectator only...both my boys are rescues, but I still enjoy going to watch. It would also be nice to network with some breeders and/or other yorkie owners in my area as well...and hopefully there will be LOTS of vendors!! |

| Not sure if any YTers participate. It looks like it is unbenched, so we will be skipping it for sure.

I'm going to the Conformation part tomorrow. Lots of little Yorkies running around in the hallways in curlers. Have met a lot of really great folks. I'd recommend visiting a Specialty for anyone thinking of showing a dog or just wanting to participate in the fun. | |

| Someone may be able to explain it better than I...and please correct me if I am wrong on anything, but.... A Benched show is where the exhibitors are supposed to stay throughout the show until it ends. An Unbenched means once you are done showing, you can leave. The Benched shows are cool for the general public because you can actually meet the owner/breeders/handlers and you can learn about their dogs and the breeds. If you are looking for a new puppy to buy, going to a benched show is a GREAT way to get to know the breeders in your area. Really, going to any show is a good way to get to know the breeders in the area...but the benched shows are geared to be more educational to the public. Coming from the prospective of someone who has shown,a benched shows can sort of be a pain in the butt. If your dog doesn't place Best of Breed and you aren't going up for Winners, there's really no reason to stick around and benched shows make for a long day. It can also be flustering to try to communicate with the public while you are trying to get your dog ready for the ring. On the other hand, it can be good public exposure for your kennels, but I've found that a lot of good reputable show breeders don't really have "push" to sell their puppies, so they don't really need that kind of public exposure to make a benched show "worth it"...unless it's something big like the Westminster. The Westminster is probably the most famous Benched Show. In Michigan, Cobo Hall is the only Benched show I am familiar with and it was awfully disappointing the last time I went. I think a lot of breeders stay away from that one bc they don't want to be "stuck" there...and a lot of breeders just packed up and left anyways last time I was there. I can't blame them...if I were showing a dog, I think I'd skip Cobo too rather than being stuck there!! |

YT 1000 Club Member | Cobo hall is the only Benched show in Michigan. I think there are only 5 or 6 benched shows left in the USA. In my point of view in regards to most of the Breeders that attend this show it is more about educating the public than it is about selling puppies. I lost count of how many times I was asked about teacups and why my Yorkies looked so much different than the one they have or have seen. With this particular show I don't recall anyone being allowed to leave til the appointed time set in the judging program which the time is usually 4 or 5pm. The biggest problem the DKC has been having is parking issues and the loading and unloading of dogs and equipment. The security is fabulous , you don't have your papers for the dogs you bring in or take out then you can't come in or leave. Some of the breeders I spoke with had declined coming this past year because of the noise from the people mover made their dogs very nervous and they were a wreck in the ring. Other than that there are some minor issues but nothing big that I know of to keep people away other than the parking issues.

YT 1000 Club Member | I also wanted to let anyone who is coming to the Monroe show that Sunday the Yorkies show in ring 12 at 12:45 it is inside the building. Also Saturday there is a Best puppy Competition and Sunday there is a Best Bred by Exhibitor competition Those will both be taking place as follows Sat - ring 4 at 3 pm puppy toy group is first sun - ring 4 at 3:15 Bred by toy group is first. Unless they make changes at the show which they usually announce beforehand.

| Thank you for keeping us up to date on the days/times. I am really looking forward to going. Does anyone know the rules are for bringing dogs?!? Such as, can you bring dogs you are not showing, as long as you bring proof of vaccinations?!? I've never had a "pet" dog to bring to a show. I've only brought the dogs I was showing...but now that I have the boys(and neither are being shown), I am wondering if it's possible to bring them along....for the exposure more than anything. I would like to bring my stroller and wheel them around the show..at least my young one!! I am really trying to socialize him so he doesn't turn out like my older dog who's scared of his shadow!! Unfortunately, there's not a lot of places Ive found around me that I can take my dogs to get "exposure" other than things like petco or petsmart. The show would be a good leaning environment. |
