| Is it costly? I was wondering what the expenses were to showing your Dog. I have some babies that will be ready when they are 12 weeks (2 more weeks!) and i was considering learning how to shoe them but would like to know a little more aboout what is all involved? |

| i don't think you can show a twelve week old dog but to answer your question. Showing is very expensive even if you show them yourself of course when you add a handler into the mix it goes even higher. Showing them yourself, you still have entry fees, all kinds of fancy grooming supplies, leads and show bows which can be as high as 12-13 dollars a pop or more. You have your gas money, hotel fees, food, show clothes and well you get the picture. If you live in a rural area like I do, then you will have to travel to find shows . My show weekend away from my home area averages about 500. and that is usually with someone sharing room expenses, gas and etc. Show entry is $25 per show and if you go to a five or six show weekend it adds up. Plus when i travel, I drive to the motel the day or night before so I can get up very early to bath and groom my dogs. |

| For AKC confirmation showing: You have to wait till your pup is 6 months to enter their first show. I usually show pups myself to give them experience and take them to handling class. Once they are mature and ready I place them with a handler. With a handler it has cost me from beginning to championship around 2,000 to 2,500 per dog for just entry fees, handling fees, grooming, travel, and boarding, etc... But remember not all dogs finish and a few can finish very quickly, like my Gi - she finished in 3 weekends of showing. So it all depends on your dog's quality, their competition, are they ready with conditioned (coat), and are they trained and can walk on a lead and do well on the table. Also their personality plays a lot into winning. Judges like the outgoing personalities. I have tried to keep up with all cost of showing, not including grooming table, tack box, brushes, bows, leads, etc... I also have my dogs get a complete vet check, teeth cleaning, and full blood panel/bile acid tests done before they go off with my handler. I hope this gives you some idea. Right now it is a bit higher due to majors breaking. You go and then not all the dogs show up that were entered. I show myself some too, but hard due to my work schedule and demands. If you show yourself you can kinda budget and pick your shows. It is a lot of fun and I have met some really nice people and became friends - lifetime friends! But, if you go the route of a handler, you do miss out on the social aspect of the dog world. Meeting other exhibitors, learning tips and tricks from them. Plus the satisfaction of Championing your own dog. If showing is in your goals, then I'd wait to purchase an older puppy with a great pedigree that is of show quality. Usually a pup should be about 6 or 7 months of age. By the way their is a Yorkie Specialty in Houston this coming weekend at the Crowne Plaza, Friday, Sat, and Sun

| But, all in all it is definately not cheap, even if you are sharing expenses when traveling.
