| Beckley,Wv Freecycle board 8yrold female. To: beckleyfreecycle@yahoogroups.com From: "Lisa Adkins" <drybees@gmail.com> Add to Address Book Add Mobile Alert Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2007 13:16:56 -0500 Subject: [Beckleyfreecycle] Offer: 8year old Female Yorkshire Terrier My husband and I have been talking about this for quite awhile now and I think we should finally just do it. We have an 8 year old female AKC registered Yorkie named Sabin. She has been raised by us since she was 4 months old. She weighs about 6-7 pounds and is black and tan colored. She has to be an inside dog because they get cold. I honestly debated just putting her to sleep but thought that there might be a good home for her. I am going to be totally honest so that you know what you are getting into. First the good things. She LOVES to be pet, and sleep in bed with you. She will lay beside you on the couch to be pet all evening long if you will give it to her. She knows several tricks and also knows, "no, shh, get down, get in the house, go pee" She knows "lay down, sit, talk to me, roll over, shake" She comes to her name and likes to ride in cars. She will scratch on the door to go out and pee, but only once. We have always had a doggie door to a fenced in yard for her to come and go when she needs to. When she is sweet she is very sweet. She gets so excited when someone comes home. The negatives. In the evenings when she is sleeping (she likes to sleep on the back of the couch like a cat and this is what she does all day long) if you come up on her she will snap at you especially if you try to pick her up. She will occasionally snap if you try to pick her up in general. She is good with my kids running and screaming but other kids she will bark, chase and snap. She would need a home without little kids that run and scream. If she gets ahold a piece of food then "it is on" It is nearly impossible to get anything away from her if she snatches it. You WILL get bit if you try to take it from her. If it is a door that is not always closed (like a closet) she does not like it to be shut or she will keep scratching and scratching until you open it. She barks when she sees something in the yard or someone comes to the door - don't know if this is a negative or a positive - depends who you are. At the house we live in now, my dad brought his dog over for a couple of days and his dog is not house broken and peed on the carpet. Sabin has now been having accidents since that time. I say accidents but I think she knows what she is doing because I never catch her doing it. Pee only, never poop. She has trouble managing how much she eats but we have her on weight control food and that keeps her weight in check. I think the ideal home for her would be with someone who knows how to control dogs without hitting them so Sabin would know who was in control. My brother is like this and she is very good around him. She definitely understand fear or hesitation and will bite if you are trying to get something from her and you are scared to do it. A place where she could be taken out for walks to reduce accidents - a place with a fenced in yard and doggie door would be perfect too. And finally, a place to give her lots of petting and attention because she has suffered since we had our 2 kids. She is not spade and has had 2 litters. So you would either need to get her spade or be careful that she does not mate. She is up on all her shots. She is not good around other dogs. Something about her makes the other dogs attack her mercilessly. So, if you you feel you can give her a good home please email me with your phone number and I will call and talk to you. What I don't want is for someone wanting her because she is a small AKC registered dog and then not consider the negatives about her and abuse her or give her away again. I want to find a person who will take her in and commit to loving her the rest of her life. I would expect her to live another 8 years or more. Lisa. I copied this for anyone. I'd take her but I've got youngsters in and out alot. TyTy |

| I think you should call the Yorkie Rescue Group and let them foster and train her and find her a wonderful home. They screen all applicants and do home checks as well. She would find the best home thru them. They will also pay for her spay. www://unitedyorkierescue.org They have volunteers and foster homes all over the US. |

| she's gone. We lost one. I'm no longer a member of that list. I was told she was gone and said indival who had the dog is aslo the list mod for it. and has so far banned me from that list. cause thu I had her permisson to pass on the email from her in writing. alot of people wrote very very very nasty emails in regards to this dog and the manner she was trying to home her. so they put her down last week. I wished there was a way to save them all. to me it sounded like not enough attention and not enough suport. but I didna suport the haressment this person went thru because of my good will posting. I've got copies of the emails, and such stuff isna something anyone should get. I will never post of a another rescue dog here. period. TyTy Last edited by TyraandMrJ; 01-25-2007 at 03:55 PM. | What?!?!?! Am I understanding this right? This person raised this dog from 4 months old, 8 years later decides to rehome it, makes it a point to say she wants it to go to a forever home and then because someone said something negative she put the dog down? Seriously? I thought she loved the dog. How do people do that? How in the world do you just put a dog down because you don't want it anymore and why in the world did the vet agree if there was no medical reason too? I just don't know what to say but if I ever came across someone like that I'd pop knot 'em.

| That is so sad! You tried and that's all you can do. So sorry it turned out that way. I am going to try to think that she really didn't put the dog down, she just said that to spite whoever emailed her. Maybe she dropped it at a shelter.......a vet would not put down a healthy dog would they? Maybe she did it herself? No, it must have been just something she said in spite......

I just dont understand why she had her put to sleep, that doesnt make sense to me.....that makes me sad..she could have given her to a rescue or something...............

| I'm sorry, but this really killed me. WHO DOES THIS!?? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?? 8 years that dog gave her unconditional love. 8 YEARS. I couldn't put Tahoe down after 5 minutes with him. People make me sick. Stupid people should not be allowed to have dogs. They don't deserve them. This just makes me sooooo angry I can't even see straight. Someone should put HER down. Arrggghh. Did any rescue organizations contact her to see if they could take the dog?

| Unfortunately, this doesn't suprise me at all. Working at a dog/cat rescue I suppose has given me thicker skin. We get phone calls and walk-in's just like this so often they're like a dime a dozen. A dog gives his/her whole life to these people and one day they just decide the dog no longer fits their lifestyle. I am sorry but I feel no sympathy towards the owner. The only victim here is the dog. She did nothing wrong and yet she was killed. (euthanized is a watered down version of the word killed that helps people to feel better about the decision that they make to take the lives of the pets that love them unconditionally) All the behavior issues described were all more than likely caused by the owner. Dogs don't just have issues, their owners do. Nobody is perfect but this is unforgivable.
