Subject: [Beckleyfreecycle] Offer: 8year old Female Yorkshire Terrier
My husband and I have been talking about this for quite awhile now and I think we should finally just do it. We have an 8 year old female AKC registered Yorkie named Sabin. She has been raised by us since she was 4 months old. She weighs about 6-7 pounds and is black and tan colored. She has to be an inside dog because they get cold. I honestly debated just putting her to sleep but thought that there might be a good home for her. I am going to be totally honest so that you know what you are getting into. First the good things. She LOVES to be pet, and sleep in bed with you. She will lay beside you on the couch to be pet all evening long if you will give it to her. She knows several tricks and also knows, "no, shh, get down, get in the house, go pee" She knows "lay down, sit, talk to me, roll over, shake" She comes to her name and likes to ride in cars. She will scratch on the door to go out and pee, but only once. We have always had a doggie door to a fenced in yard for her to come and go when she needs to. When she is sweet she is very sweet. She gets so excited when someone comes home. The negatives. In the evenings when she is sleeping (she likes to sleep on the back of the couch like a cat and this is what she does all day long) if you come up on her she will snap at you especially if you try to pick her up. She will occasionally snap if you try to pick her up in general. She is good with my kids running and screaming but other kids she will bark, chase and snap. She would need a home without little kids that run and scream. If she gets ahold a piece of food then "it is on" It is nearly impossible to get anything away from her if she snatches it. You WILL get bit if you try to take it from her. If it is a door that is not always closed (like a closet) she does not like it to be shut or she will keep scratching and scratching until you open it. She barks when she sees something in the yard or someone comes to the door - don't know if this is a negative or a positive - depends who you are. At the house we live in now, my dad brought his dog over for a couple of days and his dog is not house broken and peed on the carpet. Sabin has now been having accidents since that time. I say accidents but I think she knows what she is doing because I never catch her doing it. Pee only, never poop. She has trouble managing how much she eats but we have her on weight control food and that keeps her weight in check. I think the ideal home for her would be with someone who knows how to control dogs without hitting them so Sabin would know who was in control. My brother is like this and she is very good around him. She definitely understand fear or hesitation and will bite if you are trying to get something from her and you are scared to do it. A place where she could be taken out for walks to reduce accidents - a place with a fenced in yard and doggie door would be perfect too. And finally, a place to give her lots of petting and attention because she has suffered since we had our 2 kids. She is not spade and has had 2 litters. So you would either need to get her spade or be careful that she does not mate. She is up on all her shots. She is not good around other dogs. Something about her makes the other dogs attack her mercilessly. So, if you you feel you can give her a good home please email me with your phone number and I will call and talk to you. What I don't want is for someone wanting her because she is a small AKC registered dog and then not consider the negatives about her and abuse her or give her away again. I want to find a person who will take her in and commit to loving her the rest of her life. I would expect her to live another 8 years or more.
Lisa.
I copied this for anyone. I'd take her but I've got youngsters in and out alot.
