She's a beautiful girl. I hope she finds her retired forever home. This is a normal thing for a breeder to do. They champion their dogs and sometimes decide it's time to find them a pet home for the rest of their retired lives. Not out of the ordinary, no need for a rescue to be used but sometimes they might choose to use a reputable breed rescue to help. The only thing at all is that this girl seems to be worth much more than $100 but that's the breeder's disgression. I don't see anything wrong here. If I were closer and ready for another member she'd be snatched up pending her breeder's home and information provided checks out good.

I know right.

I was surprised to hear many breeders/exhibitors, after retiring and altering a show & breeding stock dog often just 'pet out' the dog as in give it away free to one of the pre approved homes on their list of people wanting that breed.

Makes some sense in a way they are giving someone a fully trained very desirable dog and that person is giving that dog a pleasant retirement.

This practice has been the historical way exhibitors breeders do it since the very beginning...they usually choose a home where they can remain in contact and see "their' dog again though and have contracts assuring the dog is given specified treatment in care, ie feeding grooming etc.

I am looking for a companion for my 7 1/2 year old female Yorkie. Does she get along with other dogs? How many litters of puppies has she had?

I got Izzie from a breeder. She was also retired from having puppies. Sophie Izzie and myself wish Marley the best luck in finding her forever home.

I would like to point out that sometime Breeders simply cannot find a perfect match for their retired breeders. Rescue is a great place to start because of their screening process. You can feel at ease knowing your dog will go to a perfect home. There are many Yorkies that live their entire life in a cage. Tell me, whats the difference! This Breeder came on to screen for a potential home, and she should be commended.

Thank you for your post...this was my reason for originally posting the option of surrendering to a "reputable" breed specific rescue group.

I can only speak from experience and I know my Phoebe would thank her Breeder over & over again for giving her that opportunity to find her Momma for life! Her foster mom spent 9 months diligently scrutinizing applicants just to find her right match and I am ever so thankful that I was blessed with her!
