Oh man!! :(:( Is that as painful as it looks? Poor little Gabby. Sending lots and lots of prayers and get well hugs. |
Yes, they are painful. She is on Bupranex. |
Poor sweet Gabby. Saying get well prayers for her today. |
Did the EC do anything for her last night or are they deferring to the Ophthalmologist for this? Looks horrific. |
So sorry to read this this morning. Thanks for doing what you are doing for her. I hope the specialist can help her....this is just so darn sad. |
Oh my how sad, that poor sweet baby. Bless her heart. Prayers for Gabby and you Linda! |

Poor Gabby that looks awful and I just hate that she is in pain. Does she have an appointment yet? |
Ladyjane is the third eye flap suppose to help heal the ulcer? I am sorry I have never seen this before? Poor darling...I feel horrible for her. She just seems to take everything in stride, she is so sweet. Still sending hugs and prayers....you are doing a great job with her. |
Bless her little heart. Sending prayers for that lil girl. |
Thank you for taking care of Gabby---- I am sending all my hope and positive thoughts that she will be ok!! |
[QUOTE=ladyjane;3401071]I cannot stand to look at it.....just looks so painful. Poor little angel. Waiting for the offices to open so I can get her in to see the opthamologist. Pics below....not for the squeamish. :( Don't know if you can see that the other eye is developing an ulcer, too. Just so awful. Oh my goodness this poor sweet baby. Prayers will certainly go out for her. She looks so much like my rescue Annie that I lost on New Year's Eve due to liver failure. |
Just got home from the opthamologist. First off....it is a conjunctival flap, not third eyelid that the EC did (I thought it looked different). Anyway....she has dry eye and she is much older than we have thought. At least 12 he said. What happened is that she had a calcium deposit working its way to out of the eye...and that is what is also happening with the right eye. He said that the EC did what he would have done. He has added three meds for her. She is to restart the ulcer mix, and another eye drop he prescribed....both drops are to be given 8 times/day and she was put on Clavamox. Oh, and Bupranex for pain. She said he has dry eye and possibly glaucoma in the right eye but he had a problem evaluating that today because of the ulcer. He will recheck her next Wednesday. Below is some information about this from the following website. Non-ulcerated corneal discorneal What does the calcium do? Calcium is the mineral which makes bones strong. Calcium is in solution in all tissues of the body. It is present in the fluid within the eye (aqueous) and is constantly moving through the corneal tissue from the inside of the cornea (endothelium) to the surface of the cornea (epithelium). Under certain circumstances, the calcium "precipitates out" of solution either just beneath the epithelium or within the stroma. In these circumstances, the epithelium and stroma of the cornea can become whitish. Sometimes the calcium deposits will coalesce and break through the surface and little chips of the deposit can slough off. Alternatively, the calcium may become quite dense immediately beneath the epithelium. If the calcium becomes thick enough, the surface epithelium can no longer remain attached and will "peel off." The sloughing of the calcium or the peeling off of the epithelium will result in a corneal ulcer which is quite painful. How is calcific corneal degeneration treated? If an ulcer is present, the ulcer needs to be treated with topically applied antibiotics to prevent infection while the ulcer heals. Additionally, atropine will be administered topically to dilate the pupil and relax the muscles within the eye which go into spasm when an ulcer is present. Oral RimadylŪ may be given for pain relief to dogs with corneal ulcers. Finally, to help dissolve the calcium, a "chelating agent", ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) will be applied topically several times a day. If the EDTA does not completely remove the calcium, debridement with a diamond burr or a surgical procedure call a superficial keratectomy may be required. |
I just got the little ladybug dress that I ordered from YHR! It is sooo adorable and fits perfectly on Lucy. Ringo seems to have taken over the cupcake blanket. Lucy is getting groomed tomorrow and I will get a picture in the ladybug dress. We will think of Gabby and her struggle every time we put it on; reminds me that a whole lot of dogs are not as lucky as our dogs. |

haha...well, my girls do ! :D Thank you! Hey...and the best part is it helps a pupster! |
Hopefully with this new course of treatment, Gabby's eyes will continue to improve. Linda you are truly an angel on earth for taking such good care of all the pupsters, especially Gabby. I will continue to send prayers for Gabby..big hug from me... to both you and Gabby.:) |
This poor little girl certainly has the worse luck-I hope she can feel the love we send her. |
2 Attachment(s) Poor Gabby.:( I continue to say prayers for this little girl and her comfort. I am very thankful she has you, Linda, and YHR with her. I was so happy about her dental going well, and now she is facing this. Those pictures were so hard to look. I teared up and then went to hug my girls. Again, thank God she has someone looking after her giving her the care and love she deserves. She didn't ask to come into this world and to be forced to spend what would have been her final days in the shape she was in fills me with emotions of anger and sadness. **I hope it is okay to post these here, I also put them in product review, but we are in love with our Cupcake Heavenly blanket.:) I tried to get a picture of each girl on it, but Cooper has hogged it all afternoon and Maddie has had no alone time on it,lol. Thanks Linda and YHR. |
Thank you for keeping us updated on Gabby!! Glad her dental went well and hoping her eye(s) improve and heal! We will continue to keep Gabby in our thoughts/prayers. Thank you for all you work to help Gabby and your other rescues.....and to all the other volunteeers that help these precious pups!! |
That's so sad about her eyes. It's too bad she has to wear a cone, has the painful eye condition, and the neurological problem (if that is what it is), too. It just breaks my heart to think of all she has to endure. I hope she has some relief and healing soon. |
I'm thinking of Gabby and praying for her tonight. I know the specialists there are first class and she is in great hands. I am so glad she found a way to get help, these little dogs are so resilient, hopefully now she can rest and heal since she is safe and loved by so many. |

Gabby is doing well. She is on eye drops 8 times/day and we are very hopeful that this treatment will save her eye. Her neuro appointment has been postponed for a week so that she can recover. She is eating well and resting. |
