There is really no need to take offense. I have dedicated my Life to rescuing animals off the streets and have been doing so for more then 20 yrs. I'm simply trying to let you know how most animals are returned to their owners. Also most news papers run free found adds but the lost adds can be costly, so if this little one belonged to an Elderly person who may be on a Fixed income they may not be able to afford the lost add. That does not mean they don't have the rite to have their dog back. Also I guarantee Most members here have had their dog at one time or another escape their home or yard, does that make All of us Bad owners ? I do appreciate all You have done for this little one and if her owner is never found , I trust you will do rite by her. You did come here for help, suggestions and that's simply all I was trying to offer. | |

| I think that giving them a week to come forward has been more than fair. |

| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I think you are making a huge assumption that the owners aren't looking for her. For all you know, the dog could be from another area and the owners are looking closer to home. And while you may be following the letter of the law, I think you may be failing to follow the spirit of it. I would be heart broken if I were looking for my lost dog only to find out that the person who found it had given it away.

| I'm not assuming that theyre not looking. I'm simply saying that I cannot keep her long term and I want her to be spoiled and well taken care of...and I can't do that for three dogs. We JUST added to our family a puppy who we are in the process of training and socializing with her big sister. I am not here to defend what I have done. I took in this sweet dog and have treated her like my own and done everything in my power to try to reunite her with her owner. At this point I was checking to see if anyone on YorkieTalk thought she may fit in well with their brood...not criticized for not advertising in a newspaper or for not keeping her when I know I'm not able to! |

| Thanks Ivy! I think that is exactly what I am going to do! My house seems a little crazy for her...she is definitely NOT into the new puppy following her around and trying to chew on her whenever she lies down! I've gotten soooooo many phone calls about her from people who seem wonderful!! I was hoping that someone on YorkieTalk would be able to help me know what to look for when placing her...but I feel like the people who responded were VERY quick to make assumptions about me. I am not super new to YT and I have seem people be RUDE to others...I just didn't realize that I had said anything to see that wrath--- also, I especially did not expect such rudeness on THIS page of all places! Well to those who said a prayer or had a kind thought for this sweet old baby---- thank you! |

| A couple of things you could do for screening are 1 do a home visit and 2 ask if you can talk with a vet that they use. Ask the vet if they keep up on vacs & dentistry. Also I think you mentioned someone who lives on a farm ? Make sure to tell whoever you decide on to stay with her when she goes outside as people are not always aware of the dangers of wildlife such as cyotes & hawks & owels. Good luck with your search for a new home for her. As I said before, I trust you'll do rite by her. And again Thank You for taking her in off the streets. |

| This does look like a good one. Maybe you could contact them & they would take her. That way she could get a full vet check & dental before she's placed. One good thing about turning her over to a rescue is if they do after adoption home checks & don't think she's in the rite home they can legally remove her from any bad situation she may be in . It's not likely that would happen as they do thorough screening but ya never know. Something for you to think about. |

| So sweet of you to take her in and try to help find her home. I also wondered if she might belong to an elderly person. Do you live in a small town...do you have a community center that you could leave a flier or what about local churches? Last year, we found an adorable Cairn Terrier wondering close to busy street. I just knew that he had to be lost so we kept him for a week and just kept checking the newspaper. Sure enough, a week later his parents had placed the cutest ad with his picture and wrote...."My name is Spike and I got out of my home....my mommy and daddy miss me so much. Can you help?". So this ended happily, but it did take a week for it to all fall into place.I am happy that this precious girl found her way to you! |

| No Longer a Member | Maybe request that whomever you place her with knows that you found her and if her real owners come forward she should be returned to them. Yorkies are speedy creatures and are very crafty when it comes to getting out of the yard. With it being the holiday season and the temperment that you've described her as, maybe her family is hosting this year and there were just too many people coming in and out and she slipped past one of them (there was just too much going on inside her home for her liking). I don't doubt that someone is out there looking for her, when you're in a state of panic you may not see what would be obvious to anyone else, like a brightly colored sign hanging on a common wall. All I'm saying is that even if you do place her in another home, let those people know that it is likely to be temporary and continue to give the owners a chance to step forward to claim their dog. |

| I have found a wonderful home for sweet Mama dog! She is going to live on a 21 acre farm with LOTS of other animals---but she will be the only inside dog! I strongly believe that she will be loved beyond measure! I have made it clear that if her original owners were to come forth and positively identify her---that, all things approving, she will be returned to them. Thank you everyone for your help and kind words! Mama dog is going to have a nice Christmas in a loving home! |
