Sonny Update! Sonny had a long day and is resting comfortably right now! His day started out at 9:00AM when he was driven from Sorrento, LA to Baton Rouge, LA to meet a YHR member. She and her husband drove him to Lafayette, LA to meet another member who then drove him to Orange, TX to meet me! He got to my home at 3:00 PM, so we made good time. He rode very well! Poor little guy was SO dirty......when I bathed him, the water coming off of him was a grayish, black color. I am so used to seeing yellowish brown dirt, but not this color. Almost reminded me of a mechanic's garage. Maybe that is how he got his burn. He had this blackish stuff on his back that was greasy looking and when I started to shampoo him with the medicated shampoo that stuff came off in clumps....and it was all greasy hair. Just awful looking. It did not seem to bother him, but it hurt me. :( He has quite the rash all over his little body and lots of hair loss. I was wondering if it could be thyroid. I don't think it is mange. I suppose it could be bacterial. Maybe after he was burned, he started to get a bacterial infection on his skin. Oh well...he will be seen by a vet on Monday and then we will know better! Enough of my amateur vetting. :p I trimmed him as best I could. I am just NOT a groomer. :p My groomer was not working today, so he was stuck with me. At least he is now clean. Poor little guy was so smelly before. Very sad. He is a SWEET little boy!! Here is a link to some before and after pics of him: www.yorkiehavenrescue.com/sonny |
Thank you to those who formed the "Yorkie Train" and got Sonny to LadyJane. Bless his little heart, he looks so very sad. No telling what all he has experienced in his life. Thank you for the rescue and I hope a good home is found for him. |

He will have a wonderful life from here on out! He really is a sweetheart...I just had him in my backyard playing...and took some pics. He does not look as sad in the new pics! :) |
He is so cute. His burn looks like it is almost healed and his rash must really bother him. So glad you got him and I'm sure he's glad too. |
Poor little guy has been through so much today and so many new people...he must wonder what the heck is going on...but I am sure he will sleep like an angel especially after his bath and good food......I am so happy he made it to your house, thanks to so many people who cared..:) Does he have a tail? His back is very interesting...I would think thyroid would affect his chest or head? the rash/bumps and scar area makes me just shake my head...I am glad it does not hurt him anymore and I will be very interested in what the vet says. Oh Sonny, you don't have any idea of how many people are pulling for you and we all so want to follow your life...I just have to wonder what story you would tell if you could...sweet dreams little man and big hugs. Thank you to everyone involved in his rescue even though I know each of you feel such love for doing this and that is thanks enough. Many people though would never have looked at him but that is what makes him so very, very special. |
:woof::woof::woof: Oh such happy news! This is fantastic! Please give him a big hug for me and Uni. |
I noticed the bumps too! The burn looks like a chemical burn to my untrained eye that and the idea that he has so covered in filth like he has been in a garage environment. :( |
And he is still smiling in the pics! This boy sure is something special. I can tell he is a real sweetie from the pics. I'm sure he is having a nice comfy sleep in a nice warm bed right now. (((hugs))) |
Sending hugs and thank yous to all that helped Sonny get to Texas. I am so happy that he is going to be in the best of care, now. Having a furbaby with skin issues, his looks like it could be many different things. Mange? Vasculitis? Thryroid? Maybe even with a secondary infection. Glad to hear he is going to the Vet tomorrow and begin his life over again. Please let me know how I can donate to his care. You guys are the greatest. :D |
I was thinking that last night. It really could be cutaneous vasculitis. I do think it is possible the rash is an infection. |
How is our little boy doing this morning? Did he sleep through the night? I thought about him everytime I woke up and wondered what he was thinking....warm bath, warm food and a warm bed...I must be in heaven.:) |

He slept all night! Ate really well this morning. Just a little doll. I have him in an x-pen and he has not piddled in there yet. Goes outside whenever I take him out....he just may be housebroken! :) Waiting for a call now...he will be leaving soon. I wish I could foster him....when I picked him up this morning he hugged me. Just adorable! |

I wish you could foster him also just so we could have updates on this special little guy..but I know he is going to a great place...and then will end up in a very special home...:) |
Poor little guy! That sore looks awful and I can understand you hurting for him. And his poor hair. I know he will get better soon and I will be praying that his sore heals quickly. |
He is so adorable. That bath did wonders for the little guy, I am sure he feels so much better. So happy he has a home. :D |
Linda, You are an Amazing person. When I spoke with you yesterday just the excitement in your voice. Not everyone would pick up a dog that had an infection like that and give him a bath to soothe his discomforts, a warm bed and a nice meal. I love the way you see something special in everyone of the Yorkies. I know that Sonny will have a great place until he heals. Please give us weekly updates and pics. I'm so glad he will be staying with a Vet. Please check out your timeline. Posted 9-30 and in your arms 10-03....WOW... |
Most rescuers will do what I do...it is just that these guys are difficult for the shelters to adopt out. Many people are afraid of what they might be getting into...and it is understandable. I took him to Angleton today. I felt just awful because he once again put his paws around my neck and clung to me. I hated to leave him but he is in excellent hands. He is being boarded at the vet until he can be seen and evaluated. They do boarding in addition to being a vet and have a lovely facility. He is in a huge run all to himself with a fleece bed and blanket that I left for him and some squeaky toys (although he did not seem to understand what they were...poor guy). He will most likely be in her home before the end of the week. I will be sure to post updates on him. I always get updates on pups I take to her...she is a wonderful person and is as careful about placing them as I am. The first and most important thing is the people must have stellar vet references! I am still not sure if he will be a YHR pup or not. I will also update on that. Oh...and Flopsy Mopsy...I think she is going to leave his name as Sonny! :) As for the timeline, it was the easiest transport I have ever been involved in...it was meant to be!! |
Thank You All LadyJane and all the rescuers. A very warm thank you for all the hard work and hours you folks are doing. We are fostering, with a very strong adoption option:D, another rescue that we sprung from the local shelter a month ago 9/4. Palm Bay PD found her covered w/fleas and thin as a rail, and not spayed at around 5yo according to the microchip info. Not reg either. BYB? Zoey will make 3 rescues. Again my sincerest thanks for all the volunteer work done. |
[QUOTE=ladyjane;2826159]Oh...and Flopsy Mopsy...I think she is going to leave his name as Sonny! :) QUOTE] Aw that brings tears to my eyes..no not really but when you told me he hugged you then I had tears...I will say it again he is a very special little dude.:) |
Mopsy, Am I seeing a future home for Sonny ? |

Linda, I've been offline this weekend and just rushed back on here to check on Sonny. I love his pictures - he looks like he has such personality. I'm thrilled he's finally in a safe, loving place. When will you know if he's going to be a YHR pup? After his vet exam today? It sounds like he's going to have a lot of supporters wanting to help! :) |
OK...I gotta ask...why wouldn't he be a YHR pup? |
If he is not going to require a lot of vetting, she is going to take care of him and place her himself. She is an independent rescuer. If he stays with her, he will not be in need of donations. We offered to take him into YHR if he is going to need extensive veterinary care. |
I was kinda thinking that. Wierd but...I hope he's not sick enough! |
Quote:
So do I! First, because he has been through enough and secondly, YHR does not need any more bills! Just did not want to dump a big problem on her. She is always there as a back up and does wonderful work! |

I had bathed him in medicated shampoo and gotten all of the crud off of him. I also sprayed his skin with Gentacyn and it seemed to dry it up a bit. I am SO hopeful this is nothing major...and also praying he will not come up heartworm positive. I will update as soon as I know more. |
Sonny update! Thankfully, he is heartworm negative and also does not have mange. (I did not think he did, but you never know for sure until a skin scraping is done.) The vet thinks it is either hypothyroidism or possibly Cushings. We will know more in a couple of days when the lab results are in. I did not hear anything about his skin. As I said yesterday, it did look better ...so it just may not be a real issue. I am getting short text messages from her, so will probably know more later when we talk. |
