Urgent- Yorkie in Mesquite, TX http://s236. photobucket. com/albums/ ff149/milliesa20 03/A%20Mesquite% 20dogs/?albumvie w=slideshow There is a yorkie on the second page. I received the above link this evening and it says the pups are in danger of euthanasia because the shelter is full. This is from a shelter in Mesquite, TX. I know nothing else. You could call the shelter to get further information. Their website is City of Mesquite - Animal Shelter |

I cant view the photobucket link. I see the shelter opens at 11. Please let me know if you have any more info. Otherwise, I will call at 11. I am in Rockwall, so not far. I can be there in 30 minutes tops. |

Is someone going??? |
I dont think he is ready until August 4th. I will call at 11am. Im sure Baxtersmom will call also. We will update...Thanks Lissette |
I actually save dogs all the time. www.petangelsociety.com I created to try to place animals that I take in or that people know about. I have friends in Texarkana wanting a yorkie and I told him I would look for a rescue. They are in the Bahamas just left yesterday so I cant reach them. I will get him, unless someone else does. I was going to go there between 12-2 pm. If they let me, I will adopt him today and just come back when he is ready to go! I will keep you informed. |

I just looked at your website. I see that you do promote spay/neuter. I am curious as to whether you have an application for prospective pet owners and if you check out their vet references prior to placing them with someone. Thanks! |
If you have any suggestions I am open to hearing them. I am only doing this out of the goodness of my heart. It makes me sick to my stomach when I hear of precious animals dying because of irresponsible owners. I just created the site last month, but have been taking animals in for years. Fortunately-i have placed all the animals with people I know or met through another friend. With those I did a phone interviews and then delivered the pet so I could first hand see living conditions. If you have an application I would love to incorporate something like that in the future. I do not support back yard breeding and people being irresponsible and not spaying or neutering. I also support legit breeders who better the breed. |
2 Attachment(s) OK. I just got back from the Mesquite Shelter. Let me tell you, it was heartbreaking. While I was there, which was 30 minutes, I saw 3 people bring in their dogs and cats, and that is just while I was in the lobby! Lord knows how many came in when I was back at the kennels!! :( They all said, "I just dont have the money to care for him any more" or "I don't have money to take it to the vet". Sorry excuses!!!! Sell something! You dont give up a FAMILY member! UGH! Anyway, I did see the male Yorkie. He was picked up as a stray on Friday and he will be available tomorrow at 4:15 for adoption. They do not do any shots, no vet on staff. Adoption fee is 45.00 but in turn they give you a voucher worth that much to go towards the neuter. Because he is not available yet, I could not take him out to play. He is a Yorkie mix, they said an adult. No clue of age. At this point I am third on the list of people interested in him. Basically, who ever gets there first and wants him can adopt him for the 45.00. THEN I saw a female yorkie. She was a tiny girl. She has cancer AND she is pregnant. My heart broke, I cried. BUT they said a yorkie rescue was coming after her. :) Here is the male available. He is so filthy. I just wanted to take him and love on him and give him a bath. I will try to save him tomorrow. Some one else might beat me to it, if so, I hope he goes to a good family. |
Who is picking up that pregnant girl. That just make me sick. Can you find out the rescue? Sometimes people come in posing as rescue and sell them for breeding stock or just to make a buck. If she is tiny she will need medical attention asap including an xray. You will need to get there early. They use the outside camaras to see who pulled up first. We need to save both. What can I do. I dont get home until 1130am tomorrow. |

God bless you, BaxtersMommy. (And amen to "You dont give up a FAMILY member!") |
I just called the shelter and the girl is tiny, pregnant and heartworm possitive. They notified a rescue called united yorkshire kingdom and network rescue. She said no from the rescue have come by and she is ready to go. Any advise. I'm going to call my vet now. |
I just called them back asking about sick female in kennel 5. They would not give me any info- but he did say they verify orgs 501c3 |
Funny, I spoke with a lady and she said come and get her. I also have a call in to my vet to see if they can vet her. What do you think? |
Wow! Who knows the real story!!! We gotta save em!!! |
IRS Search Here's a link to the IRS search screen for charitable organizations. I found both United Yorkie Rescue (Ohio) and Yorkshire Terrier Rescue Network (NC). I did NOT find United Yorkshire Kingdom. Search for Charities, Online Version of Publication 78 |

I just faxed our paperwork to the shelter and Baxter'sMommy is on her way to pick up the female. I did not know about the male until now. We really do not have room for him now (really stretching it taking n the female)....but, we can all network and see what we can do later on. I want to make sure this female does not end up in the wrong hands. |
Just got a call from Baxter'sMommy...this little yorkie is safe and sound and will now be a Yorkie Haven pup when we can figure out a transport. |

1 Attachment(s) Baxtersmommy has her, she is safe. Heartworm positive and pregnant and about 5 to 6 lbs. We are waiting to hear back from vets in our area that would help us treat her. Baxtersmommy told me her teeth were chatting when she picked her up. Poor baby. Thanks Linda for your work. Well here she is .....Attachment 286747 |
3 Attachment(s) OK. I can finally take a breather! haha I got to the shelter today at noon and saw the female and asked about her. They said, "she is sick, you don't want her besides a rescue is coming to get her." I said, "I didnt ask if she was sick, I asked if I could adopt her." They told me I couldn't So, I left it at that. Thankfully we were persistent to find that she was available to a valid rescue. Thanks for faxing the paperwork LadyJane, that really does help!!! I would have left with her at noon today if they would have let me. As soon as I got there they recognized me and said, "You were just here." (well duh!) She is absolutely precious! The sweetest little girl. YES, she definitely needs her teeth cleaned, but I didn't see any missing, so that is good. I got her home and put together an xl wire crate that we have in our garage (for times like this) so she is now in our puppy play room. We don't have kids, just our furrbabies, so one room in the house is for them. I do feel bad because I am keeping her separate from the others until I know her health condition. However, she does look very content with her blankey and toys. She doesn't bark, she is just a precious little girl. She also jumps and plays, doesn't act like she feels bad. Im not sure what the vet bill would cost, but I could certainly see me falling head over hills with this one. :D It was such a great feeling saving her & I am going to try to get the boy tomorrow. Thanks for trusting me to help LadyJane! We have 3 calls in to Vets to see if they will help us with a discount. |
A big thank you to those who worked so diligently to get these dogs taken care of today. What scares me about the pregnant female, is what kind of puppies is she carrying. Hopefully not from a larger dog so it will hurt her to give birth. Do the heart worms pass to the babies? Please keep us posted about this and if the vets are going to give you some assistance. :thumbs up |

As to the question about heartworms, the microfilaria (baby heartworms that are found in the blood) can pass to the puppies, but they cannot turn into adult heartworms. They must go through a mosquito first. The puppies will be ok later on when they are put on heartworm preventatives. That will kill the microfilaria that they may have. |
Thank you Lissette and Dana for all you are doing for Mimi! Dana, she looks SO comfortable and happy in those pics! You are an angel!! |
