| Little Girl needs home in DALLAS Hi all, I rescued a little girl, Karma, about 2 months ago. She was dropped off at my boyfriend's firestation. Now it's time to find her a new, permanant home. She's approx 10 years old and 5 1/2 lbs. She's blind in one eye due to a catarac, and has lost many of her teeth, however, she eats soft food with no problem, and even some small kibble. She has a microchip that's not currently registered, and we believe she's from a mill. With all that, she's still a sweet, little thing and has checked out A-OK at the vet. She gets along fine with my cat and large dog (although she'd rather not be bothered by him...lol) as well as my children (13 and 9) and leans towards females more than males, although she's not had any problems. She's kennel trained, walks great on a leash, and is quiet all the time. We've only heard her bark once! Please let me know if you would like to have a new baby, or maybe know someone who does. Thanks so much! |

| Oh, she is a cutie! I hope you find the perfect home for her soon. Are you charging a re-homing fee?

| I looked back over your previous posts and see that at one point you thought she was pregnant. What ever happened with her suspected pregnancy, her teeth that were fused together and a possible liver issue? You never posted back if she was truly pregnant or if it was a suspected liver issue. Did you ever have her spayed and teeth taken care of that you also mentioned in your previous posts. I hope you are able to find this little girl a wonderful home.

| No, thankfully she was not pregnant. There is no problem with her liver either. She just had a raging case of colitis when she was rescued which caused some swelling and bleeding. We gave her a round of meds, and she's been perfect since. Stool samples are clean. As far as her teeth and spaying, no, we have not taken care of that at this point. With her age, and being just 5 lbs, both vets are very hesitant to put her under. She's been eating wet food as well as some kibble, and so far she's doing really well. Given her age we've really weighed the pros and cons of doing surgery on her, and so far we have decided to keep it simple. She really is doing very well, and the only reason I would like to find a home for her is that I have a "Permanent" member of the house who's 80 lbs and just 2 years old. Although she does fine with him, he follows her around like a little wind up toy and I think it makes her a little crazy sometimes. lol. Amazing how she knows how to put him in his place, but I just have a feeling she'll do much better in a home with smaller dogs and/or being an only puppy. If she ends up staying here, she's more than welcome. She really is a cutie! |

| Have you looked into a local rescue to maybe help you get the word out in your area? They could maybe work with you to post her on Petfinder and their own websites. Just a thought!

Five pounds is a pretty normal size....surely there must be another reason? I have never heard of a vet not doing a spay or dental on a five pounder. I think if a vet told me that, I would seek another opinion.

| I would be very leery of offering her for adoption while not being spayed. As for the teeth not being taken care of I have a foster right now that is in terrible shape and was on deaths door because of his teeth. He's at least 10 and my vet said that his health issues were directly related to his teeth. I believe that LadyJane is correct about a second opinion. If you are in TX maybe she can help you find a vet that is willing to do the spay and dental regardless of whether or not she is going to a new home. Issues with teeth can lead to very serious problems like Truman has. They almost cost Truman him life.
