Rescue Venting~

I'm sorry to hear that the rescue groups in your area do this. We have adopted out to homes with children as young as 5, although this is the exception to the rule. Our going age in 8 for kids in the home. The age of reason.

We have also adopted to much older people. As old as 80 where there is strong family support. Older people need to have something warm to cuddle with. Seniors for seniors, is our motto. Again, most groups do not do this, which is a shame.

It always amazes me that yorkies go into rescues..our rescue group in Ontario wont let people with children adopt and by children I mean under 16!!!! I sure know I would have rescued before I ever bought a puppy if the rescue group would have allowed it..good luck finding new homes for these little dears..

Well, we did it...yesterday, we picked up little Abby from a wonderful Foster Mom through Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue!

Abby is 3 yrs old and cute as a button with an absolute darling personality and potty trained to boot

A little history about Abby: her first & only owner bought her while she was in college probably hoping for a "pocket" puppy and when Abby outgrew her pink "Barbie Doll" size pet kennel...and hers & her boyfriends attention, she opted to relinquish Abby to YTNR...Thank God!

Abby went to stay with Foster Mom Gail & her family for a few weeks till I fell in love with her picture & bio on yorkierescue.com. If you go to their website, click on "Available Rescues" or the link below and scroll down to...I think the 14th pooch and you'll see Abby's picture!

I'll be taking pic's tomorrow of Bella with Abby and will definitely share

When I think of spending what I did for Bella (gulp...) I wish I had known about "rescue adoptions" first! Of course, I would do it all over again in a heart beat just because of Bella but, if I hadn't found Bella first and had known of this route, you can betcha I would have started here in the first place!

I am very thankful to Abby's first mommy for the common sense to have sought out a rescue group to help her out of a not very well thought out pet ownership and giving me the opportunity to give Abby the forever home she so deserves

I hope my experience will spark someone else to do the same for a Yorkie in need!

I don't think I will ever understand how people can dump their pet that has lived int heir home for 10-12 years during the holidays and expect us to drop everything and take the poor pup. I am ever astounded at the condition of some of these babies. You expect some of the pups coming from a shelter environment to be a mess but when they come from a home and they are encrusted with feces and are saturated with urine, it still, after 25 years, leaves me bewildered. I can't tell you the toll it has taken on me after all this time and the tireless hours that have been put in from too many rescue groups. It's numbing. In the end when you place that little one in the arms of the new mommy or daddy all the work disappears and the heart is over flowing with joy. Then your on to the next one~

I suppose I needed to vent. This past month in rescue has been especially hard, they call it being "burnt out". I love what I do and I will never stop rescuing pups. It's in my blood but there are those days that you just want to quit.

I'm in a group with the most awesome people. Dedicated, loving ,strong, willing to do what needs to be done for the sake of the little souls that come through our doors. I am grateful.

Just tonight, I was approved to adopt a Yorkie rescue from a local organization and I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to do this!

I'm hoping in the very near future to also join the ranks and be able to commit to fostering future little ones who are in need

Well, just one month later...and I am proud to say, that Bella has a new little sister, Abby who I adopted through YTNR...yeh!

She is absolutely precious and so perfect in every way that sometimes I just stare at her and can't believe that her first momma could part with her...just amazes me! Oh well, she's home to stay forever now!
