| Welcome to the Yorkie Family. I recommend you ask your breeder what type they've been using. You don't want to change too quickly as it may cause dry skin problems. I use: Gold Medal Puppy Tearless Shampoo from Cardinal. Petsmarts sells it. It's what the breeder used. I'm going to try another brand recommended by a Yorkie Lover on this site: Vellus. Since my pup came from the west coast to the east, I need a better moisturing and conditioning brand. If you find any suggestions to the kind, I'd be most interested. |

| We use Fresh 'n Clean Tearless Puppy Shampoo (got it at PetSmart, recommended by our vet) - but he does get dry skin from time to time and I think he could use a conditioner but havent' figured out what to buy for him yet. I'll be reading this thread for advice too, lol! He used to get dry skin all the time but doesn't very often now...but still I want to get the best for him, of course.

| Baby shampoo My breeder told me to go ahead and use my shampoo on my puppy because if it's good enough for me then it's good enough for the dog. I checked with my groomer if that was true and she said no, the pH is different for a human and a dog. I had already bathed my dog with baby shampoo and the groomer said that was even a bigger no-no b/c baby shampoo is made to remove even more oils/greese b/c babies have more than adults. She said if I was desperate and didn't have any dog shampoo in the house to go ahead and use mine until I get dog shampoo versus using the baby shampoo b/c it will dry the skin out more than my shampoo. Just what I've been told....

| I use people products as well. Its Paul Mitchell's straight works shampoo & conditioner that I really didn't like to use. My husband was like this dog has better shampoo than I do but really I just used it b/c I didn't like it. What I read is to make sure you rinse all of the shampoo & conditioner out. I rinse Reagan about three times as long as I think I should and she's never had dry skin, well once but that was when I tried something new. I have heard it both ways though some say that people products are fine and others say to only use dog products. Whatever you use just make sure it rinse the pup well, its worked for me so far.

| Oreo used to be super super dry... and i'd use the dog shampoo on him and it would just make his skin more dry. since the baby shampoo his skin is like a babies! i just make sure to rinse ginger and oreo very well so it won't irritate the skin. |

Pure Paws www.purepaws.net Favorite Products: Ultra Brightening Shampoo Ultra Reconstructing Shampoo Ultra Shine Conditioning Spray Ultra Finishing Show Spray I also find the "Plush Puppy" products to be superior. Many show people use this line - in and outside of Yorkies. Favorite Products: Reviva Coat, Swishy Coat Conditioning Shampoo YOu can do an internet search to see who sells these products closest to you. I pick the products up at shows or order them the itty bitty dog store (on line). Itty Bitty Dog Store Plush Puppy Products Last edited by yorkipower; 04-08-2005 at 09:43 AM. | |
