Has Royal Canin gone insane?

You might want to start your own thread on this, has the vet made any diagnosis? I don't think food switches are a good idea, without a solid plan. With gum disease, he may need the soft food, but you will get better answers if you start your own thread.

Have you tried Reglan for the spit-up/regurgitation? Unfortunately, letting it go (which doesn't really seem like a huge deal) can be a problem because when spitting up, sometimes they aspirate.

I have been working with the vet since i got him a little over a month ago..hes had a lot done, and still no reason for the vomiting. I can control it with either wet food, or feeding him insanely slow..but that takes a bunch of money/time..which i dont really have and i know there HAS To be a reason. The reason i have a feeling like that is b.c the day i brought him home he threw up from anxiety and it looked like normal vomit, it had rice or something (possibly worms) in it..but it looked normal. Ever since a few days after that, he has thrown up white goo, sometimes with food in it and sometimes no..but ALWAYS when he is eating..I thought allergy, so i switched food to purina for sensitive systems with salmon..and he threw up WAY more while he was eating and with more food in it each time..so after a couple weeks i switched him back to eukanuba. At this pt i feel like i have researched EVERYTHING but get diff feedback constantly..

I've fed Libbie RC all her life and she loves it! Yes I have notice that the price has jumped up which is a bummer but what can I do. She loves it!

What about Science Diet Growth Small Bites? Anyone know anything about this one. I saw it recommended on Shooterdog.com

Just wondering. Right now I'm using RC Indoor Puppy #27 because that is what the breeder gave me.

I met a rep in Petco about a week ago who was promoting Blue Buffalo. It is more expensive than RC. Any thoughts on that one?

i was between blue and wellness. my aunt feed blue to her yorkie, and he's doing great. i went with wellness, and my guy is fine too. i think it would be tough to not choose either of those two.

i too talked to a blue rep at petsmart. they said that you could switch between protein sources (lamb, chicken, fish...) without the slow switch over. i found that interesting. and i wonder if other dog foods with different recipes can claim the same?

I tried Blue Wilderness, which is made by the Blue Buffalo Company and Joey experienced problems with it, but many dogs do well on it. I personally don't think it's a good idea to change their puppy food; it seems like so many dogs start having problems when people do food switches too early. I also have read that later allergy development is more likely if too much variety is given too early. Sometimes they become super fussy when doing food changes, and won't go back to the original food. No matter what food you use, be prepared to read some bad things about it.

as far as the dog eating to fast.. you could buy some pvc pipe and cover both ends and drill a hole in the side so only a couple of pieces of food come out and the dog has to learn to roll it to get food, this takes time and he wont eat as fast and its like a puzzle for them

well i tried a kong toy, but once he figured it out he still gets it out really fast and then throws up. maybe a smaller one would do some good or something, but i dunno..ill prob look at petsmart when i go to look for food. i've even tried takin his bowl away at times, and working with the wait command before he is allowed to eat..but nothin,...lol maybe i can try the idea of feeding him smaller meals more times a day, so he knows food will always be here and doesnt have to gulp?? the only thing is that IF he had this problem before i got him, its gonna be impossible i feel like b/c hes already 3 yrs old

bought some royal canin mini special 30 for sensitive stomachs and fussy dogs...HOPE IT WORKS! i also bought some gas be gone or somethin like that at petsmart. he would get a 1/4 a tablet a day to reduce gas..we'll see. i bought more euk wet food so i can gradually change him over but i dunno how im gonna cuz if its mixed in he just eats it without chewing and throws up!

I think if a dog has gas, it means he's not digesting something properly. I think rather than just treating the gas, it might be best to find a food that he can digest. Gas pills usually just break up the bubbles, they don't really aid in digestion of the food. If a dog isn't digesting his food well, it may means he isn't getting the nutrients out of the food, so even if the food contains all required nutrients, the dog may not be able to absorb them.

ya thats what IM HOPING the new food does. It doesnt have grains or by products in it, which supposedly causes gas in dogs..i have to gradually get him on it..starting tonite, but i did give him a 1/4 a tablet of the gas pill, which is the first med hes ever eaten without trouble, and i hope that at least helps with his spit up until i get him switched. i dont want him to be on ANY kind of meds long term if i can help it..even over the counter ones...i dont feel comfortable with giving my dogs things other than food and treats..so we'll see, but like i said gas pills are NOT a keeper for long term, so no worries there.

I know what you mean, I came here knowing nothing about puppies, and specifically yorkies, now a couple of years later, I'm an expert!
