| Wireless fence Hi, I am new to this site, and also a new Yorkie owner! I have two females, one is 9 months old and the other is 5 months old. I need info on how effective wireless fences are for Yorkie's. They are both under 8 pounds, and I really would like to use the wireless fence, rather than fence in my whole yard! Any idea's? Thanks Sandy Kealy |

| I would not go with a wireless fence not only do the hurt but other dogs can get into your yard and hurt you dog. They can also come into your yard and potty. I say fence your whole yard thats what I have done, my front and back yard is all fenced in. I just feel it is safer this way.

| My dad has the wireless fence. It works well for your dogs, but not for others. A big dog can come into your yard and your babies can't run away. Also the collars they wear, the batteries can go dead in them without you knowing and your babies can get out and then be ran over by a car. Happened to my dad. He still just has the wireless fence, but has put a wire all around the edge of his yard with electricity hooked to it. So other animals can't come in and if the doggies do make it past the wireless fence, they won't make it past the electric fence. But he lives out sorda in the country and can have a wire "fence" like that. If you live in the city they may not allow it. You may just be better of to get a normal fence.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I tried it on my and it didn't take the little stinkers to figure out if they run to the other side it would stop working. Then they were scared to come home. I bought the one for small dogs. I boxed it back up and sold it on Ebay..lol

YT 2000 Club Member | We have a fence around our yard, but one day one of our little girls went right through the chain link fence because she is so small. We never dreamed she would be able to do that. She got out of our yard and almost to the street. This almost scared the life out of me. We put in the under ground fence then. It only took about ten minutes of them wearing their new collars that comes with the fence before they knew their boundaries.........now I only put their collars on about every two weeks for about ten minutes so they can hear the noise it makes if they go to close to the fence or the drive way. I don't ever want them to get out again. I used to be against this kind of a fence until one of my girls got out of the yard. Now it may save their lives. If the battery gets low, it sounds an alarm that is heard through out our house. Now the fence keeps other dogs out (there is three strands of barb wire on top of the chain link) and the other keeps our little girls in. Both of the fences keep me from heart failure.

| I hate electric fences I mean come on put the collar on and see how bad it hurts now imagine that on a tiny dog, then there is the fact that the box thats on the collar that does the shocking is pretty big in the ones I have seen, and last there is the fact that its not going to keep other animals out or other people.

YT 2000 Club Member | We have ours turned down very low (ours is adjustable) and we have tried ours on ourself first. They also make them in different sizes for the size of the dog. We also have our yard fenced so dogs can't come in. It is a personal preference for everyone.

| The thing is they could still just take the shock and be out and scared to come back in and end up hurt or lost or stollen still sounds risky to me.

| Why would you ever want to shock your doggie??????????? That makes me so sad!!! I'm a huge believer that if I take the responsibility for a life, I would do my best to keep it safe, protected, and our of harms way. Snickers is a oart of my family, I could never have an electric fence that could hurt him. An electric fence: 1) SHOCKS your dog-how cruel 2) Can allow other scary animals in!!! 3) Gives your dog this terrible looking collar that again SHOCKS YOUR DOG! 4) Did I mention it SHOCKS your dog??? Sorry---could never put my dog through pain no matter what!! Snick & Viv

| A. I have seen pups run right through them. B. Anything can come into your yard. Even IF you are out there with them, by the time you reach them, it may be too late. One bite and one shake by a larger dog and bye bye yorkie. C. I suggest you ask the company if you can see a demo. Then, put a collar on and see how it feels before you subject your pups to it.
