I'm not big on these fences, either. But we used to have a collar for our German Shepherd and I did it on my hand and it didn't really hurt at all. I put it on one of the higher levels too and we always kept hers on low. It just kind of "shocks" you like "WTF was that?!" But the one we had didn't hurt... me, my dad and sister all tried it on ourselves. With that said, I'd never use one because I don't think it would keep Jackson back... he'd probably just be like "what was that?!" and run through it anyways, LOL.
