| [News] Terriers Burned To Death At Groomer's POSTED: 10:06 pm EDT August 17, 2006 UPDATED: 10:20 am EDT August 18, 2006 CLINTON, Conn. -- Police have arrested a Clinton dog groomer and charged her with killing two dogs. According to police, Lindsay Deciccio, 22, left two dogs, 2-year-old Trooper and 10-year-old Daisy, inside a stainless-steel dog dryer for too long, killing the dogs. Police said Deciccio admitted to leaving the Yorkshire terriers in the dryer for 25 minutes. The normal drying time for terriers is six minutes. Police said Deciccio, who runs Total Petcare in Clinton, told them the dryer malfunctioned and blew hot air. Deciccio and her employees had nothing to say when asked by Eyewitness News for comment. "They were basically baked to death," said the Clinton Police Chief Joseph Faughnan. "It caused severe damage to both of these dogs, killing one at the scene." Police said Deciccio's business was operating without a license. The state attorney general's office has initiated an investigation in the case and charges may be pending. According to police, Daisy died within minutes. Police said Trooper was covered with second-degree burns. His body temperature was still 110 degrees hours after he was pulled from the dryer. Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Katy Zachary reported that several veterinarians said it was the worst case of hyperthermia and dehydration they had ever seen. http://www.wfsb.com/news/9698297/detail.html |

| I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for these people. My only suggestion is to put them in a jail cell with a dryer built for humans. But then, I have very little tolerance for stupipity. I hope they close their doors and are never allowed to groom dogs again. |

| OMG! Since reading all of the horror stories about groomers frying these babies, I decided long ago that I would never, ever take mine to a groomer that used anything besides a blow dryer. Why? Because, unfortunately, you can't tell by looking at someone how stupid they are!

| Wow, now I need to check with my groomer and see if she uses these types of dryers. I am freaking out. This just makes me sick. I know that accidents happen, but this really upsets me.

| OMG. After reading those horror stories, I'll really take my time to find a groomer for J.J. Don't think I'll leave him alone there as well.... Don't you all wish you could groom by yourself (sigh), then our babies would be safe

| I am so glad my groomer just uses fans. She advised me that some groomers use the heat dryer cages to save time, and she feels that those people do not care about the dogs just about how many they can groom in a day and how much money they can make. My groomer works by appointment only, and will only schedule has many dogs that her and her sister can handle, sometimes that is more or less depending on the dogs. |
