| [News] Dog Attacks Woman, Kills Her Yorkie An 81-year-old Waterloo woman was knocked down and her dog killed when a neighbor's dogs burrowed under a chain link fence and attacked Saturday. Bernice Wasserfort was holding her Yorkshire terrier and walking through her back yard when two Staffordshire Terriers forced their way under her chain link fence at about 7 a.m. When the dogs got out from under the fence, one of them knocked over Wasserfort and attacked the Yorkie, killing it instantly, relatives said. Wasserfort's son and daughter-in-law tried to fight off the dogs and rescue the Yorkie, but were unsuccessful. Animal Control officers issued a citation to the owner of the Staffordshire Terriers, Monique Wolf, though she was allowed to keep her dogs. Wasserfort said this was the second time she has been knocked down by Wolf's dogs. The first was in the fall when they also tried to get the Yorkie. Wolf said she was sorry for Wasserfort's loss said her dogs apparently thought the smaller dog was a toy. She said she's had dogs for seven years and they've never attacked a human. I totally agree with you. Those dogs have killed once they'll more than likely do it again. Next time it might be a child. This is horriable what that lady had to go through watching those dogs kill her's. I feel badly for the woman.

| That is CRAZY! How horrific! This is the 2nd time these dogs attack and the owner just get a citation . That's absolutely nuts! They could have killed the lady too! Poor yorkie baby....so heartwrenching. I sure hope the neighbor will compensate her somehow. That's an outrage!

| Sorry for your loss, but the dogs are not to blame. Actually pit bulls and staffordshires' and American Bulldogs are the most people friendly dogs. They do not bite out of fear or anger like many other dogs. We just gota Yorkie who has snapped at our pit bull on several ocassions, but she is trained enough to know to snap back. Pit bulls and Staffys or AmStaffs have a very high prey drive towards other animals because that's how they were bred just like many other dogs have their own personal genetics. Why would someone want to own a dog who was bred to kill other animals, well that's not the case. The breed is very gentle and naturally spoiled when in the right hands which I can't say it isn't always the case nowadays. I have owned many pit bulls and they all were dog park friendly because I wanted them to be and trained them to be, so you see, many owners of such dogs do not want their dogs to be animal friendly and to be honest I'm not wanting mine to be anymore especially with this new dog we got, he is the biggest fear biter I ever experienced. If he bites my pit one more time, he's outta here.
