Some of her friends really put her down for euthanizing the dog and said he should have been put into rescue and given another chance. But she said she didn't want anyone else to have to deal with him and she didn't think he would ever be safe. He had been through rescue once and it would not be possible to ever place him in another home. A dog that bites is not a happy dog and I think she did the right thing. They loved the dog and the whole family was devastated. She still cries when she talks about the dog and it's been three or four years ago now. You just can't live with a dog that bites. You can't take those chances, even with a small dog. And having a dog that you can't interact with defeats the reason for having a dog. It's sad, but you have to live with the dog every day and you have to do what's best for the dog and your family.

That is a very responsible owner.

My cocker spaniel will bite someone if they come into my house. He doens't like othe dogs except for Fritzel. He bit me once trying to bite one of my other dogs. I would not even consider putting hm down. I put him in his crate when someone comes over and keep him separate from my other dogs. You can live with an aggressive dog. You just have to know how to deal with their issues and be willing to do it.

im sorry, but those dogs WERE RETURNED??? Oh my Gosh. i cant believe they were returned to the owner! they should have been euthanized. If my dog would have killed another dog or cat i dont know that i would want him back.

this is just sad. i hope the yorkies owners file a civil suit.. i would.

This scares me to death. We have pit bulls all over our town and they are always loose. We are putting up a full yard fence, but I'm still worried.

Not only was I wrong I was stunned at how many attacks the pit bulls have compared to other breeds! And this is attacks on humans! I would hate to see the number of attacks on other dogs!

This just infuriates me! Why do people constantly allow their dogs to roam without being leashed? An owner might trust it's dog and thinks they know their dog...but a human can NOT predict what a dog MIGHT do in EVERY circumstance.....big dog OR little dog...
The sad thing is that it is always a little dog or a human that pays the price....for an owner's lack of responsibility.....Every dog that is not is it's own - fenced back yard should be on a leash!! Simple really!
I have many times taken my Yorkie to the park - only to find other dogs running around unleashed....I take no chances...I pick my dog up and leave!
If I were to get close enough to the other dog owner...I would have no problem telling them that their dog should be on a leash...after all..it is the law!

I know these statistics are of great debate. I have read so many stats and I have read the debates on the "other side" that the way the stats were taken was to the disadvantage of the breed pit bulls ...this thread if you haven't read http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...rk-city-4.html is another like this thread, a debate on this and I just have to say there is just too many facts out there about these dogs! I don't say this to cause a "riff" here on YT, but I know there will be....glad you looked this up..it is quite stunning isn't it?? I really really feel sorry for the victims and their loved ones...

Actually I blame the owners NOT the dogs!!!! I feel VERY strong that it is the OWNERS resposibililty to train their dogs, and if they are aggressive, to take appropriate measures, which would include NOT exposing them to other people and dogs where these types of situations can occur. I CANNOT BELIEVE that certain dogs are "BAD" - I think that it is result of how the owners interact and train them. Yes, some dogs are difficult(just ask me- my baby Lexie is one of them-some of you may have read my threads in the past)
BUT part of being a responsible pet owner is training your dog and/or avoiding potentially bad situations. Why is everyone always so quick to fault the dogs and not the owners? That part I don't understand.

We need very strict laws when it comes to this type of problem, and to just "hand" over their dogs after what they did is an outrage!!!
I just don't want to hear how sweet Pits can be "if only" they were raised right. That is pure BS!!! Having Pits is like having Wolves. They are unpredictable and you never know if or when they will go into prey drive.

WORD!!! I'm so sick&tired of people saying if only their pitbull was raise properly it would have been more friendly! It's such bs&I can't believe that those people got away with it!

This kind of thing pissess me off so much . DAMN dogs who did this needs to be put down. Because now they have crossed the line and will attack again. I feel likt the owners of these vicious dogs needs to be accountable for their actions .

I personally would not live with a dog that bites, but "bite" is a lot different than "kill"! Your cocker spaniel isn't apt to kill anyone. If a Yorkie (or your cocker spaniel) bites, it's a bite, but pit bulls go for the throat and kill. They don't just bite, they grab on, hang on, chew, and kill. They look for victims, stalk them, jump fences to get to them, chase them down, and kill. And it doesn't seem to have a lot to to with "how they were raised" since most of the owners say the dog had always been very sweet and gentle up to that point, the moment before they killed. I think the breed should be banned and I don't apologize for that opinion. I think human killers should be executed and the world made safer from animals and people that kill. I have small pets and granddaughters and God bless any animal or human that would dare to attack any of them. I'd get my trusty little .22 and shoot them, yes I would, and no apologies for protecting my loved ones. I'm a sweet little old lady, but don't threaten me or mine with bodily harm!

My thoughts exactly! In the neighborhood that I live in, Pitbulls are banned, thank gosh! I still see people walking them all the time&that really makes me angry because they're such aggressive dogs. I don't think that ANYONE should be allowed to have a Pitbull. It's in their nature to kill&even if they're "trained properly" they still have that innate feeling to kill. No matter how hard you try no one can take that innateness away from them.

One of the absolute sweetest dogs I ever knew was a pit bull but that will not stop me from agreeing that we need laws on the books to protect us and our small animals. There is a reason that the pit bull is used for dog fighting. I would agree to instituting a special license for them. Where I live it isn't unusual to see a gang of teenagers walking down the street with a pit bull. One has to wonder if they are heading to a fight. Isn't it in New York where no one under the age of 16 can own one? Too many thugs see them as status symbols.

Agreed We don't take walks with out one. You never know if you could get mugged or attacked or bitten by another dog or a rabbid animal.

I Personaly wouldn't have sat and watched my Bella get killed! I would die for that little girl and everybody that knows me, knows I mean it! Besides I wouldn't have ended up dead, those two pits would have. I may be small but small women pack the same as large women. Even if I wasn't packing I still would have got in between the dogs and my baby.
