My vet only charges $20-25 for an exam... The great thing about them is, if you're coming in for one particular thing (DHLPP - $12, Rabies - $9, Fecal Exam - $5, etc) then thats all you pay for. They don't charge the exam fee everytime you come in..

On Monday I took Bailey and Brooklyn in.. Bailey got a checkup and fecal because she was having jet lag and wasn't adjusting well ($25), Brooklyn got a rabies shot ($9), and we got 4 cans of science diet wet food to get Bailey to eat ($6).. So my whole visit only cost $40.. Other vets in my area charge an arm and a leg and I love my vet! They're soo nice and they actually know your pets and treat them accordingly (with temperament and such)..

Animal Smiley 049 pet insurance

While were on the subject of these costs, does anyone have pet insurance and if you do is it really worth getting? My Pebbles just had to have a kidney removed and total cost for ER visit, tests, etc was around $4400. I was wondering if having the insurance would have saved me alot of money? And does the insurance pay for any offfice visits, shots, meds, etc?

That's MY VET!! They said approximately $300 for the spay and micro-chip. Each tooth will be $7 and if she needs meds it'll be more. They didn't mention anything about pre-testing.

I am having Kalina spayed in 4 weeks. That will cost approximately $300 and includes the microchipping. It costs an additional $7 for each baby tooth that needs to be pulled.

Does this seem expensive or reasonable?

Both my puppies have been microchipped by the breeder, I wont take it any other way.

I pay 20 for a routine exam with nail clipping and meds are extra and shots are 20 each. Blood works is 80 and stool is 15.00

Our old vet it was $35 for a visit no matter what you went for. When I got my fosters fixed it was always about $150, but i didn't do the preop bloodwork since the ones I was in charge of fixing were larger breed pups. The small breeds I've fostered have been through a rescue so I don't know what they have paid.

When I got Slade I found a vet who just charged for the shots so I took him there. $34 for shots was a lot better than $80. I think the new vet is maybe $30 if you come in just for an exam. Luckily **knock on wood** mine stay pretty healthy so we've never had to go for anything other than shots in the past couple yrs.

When I was in SC and Laney was a pup she had parvo and had to stay overnight for 3 nights, with my college student discount he gave the total came to $200 for everything.

My vet charges 12€ for visit... if Milo has shots it's about 18-20€, and he clips his nails for free.

A few months ago I was upset at vet prices. It just seemed like too much until I started comparing with other people (who don't use country/farm vets). Vets go to school for a long time and they should be comfortable financially in my opinion. Our vet is one of the most expensive in the area but I think that they are totally reasonable now.

Exam-$38
Recheck Exam (if problem didn't clear up)-$23
X-ray-$80 per view
Antibiotics-$15 or $20
Pain Med-about $15
Cytology (for ear goop)-$17
Urinalysis-$25
Urine Culture-$90
Bile Acid Test-$77
One day hospital stay-$28
Routine bloodwork-$67
Pre-op bloodwork-about $95
Spay (bloodwork is extra)-$85 (they do low cost spay/neuter and I think pain med and e-collar was included)
Fecal-$16
Shots-about $15 each
Frontline-$72 for 7 months
Titers (for Parvo and Distemper together)-$85

.......when Truffles got neutered this month the office visit was $24...and neutering, rabies shot, and 2 teeth came to $74.....I was able to pick him up the same day so there were no overnight charges....when I came back to get him I brought Millee for a rabies shot and he didn't charge me for her visit or nails clipped.....we avoid medications, prescriptions, flea treatments, etc so we never have that expense...I drove out of town to get to him since the local vets charge at least double that plus whatever the cost of their new home addition is.........

My vet charges $45 for the exam alone but ya know what? I love him so much I would pay him $200 for an exam if he charged it. I really don't mind paying for the attention we get and he is so wonderful with the monkeys. He's also located right next door to their daycare and really goes out of his way to ask me how they are doing and always calls to check up.

I think that if you trust your vet and are pleased with his services, stay with him

.......I think that is the key, simonandhallie..........if you trust your vet and have wonderful results w your babies' health then they are worth their weight in gold........it's the ones who won't let you leave the office without a prescription, the ones who want to double up on unnecessary shots, the ones who never seem to get to the bottom of the health concern and keep charging anyway, the ones who recommend unnecessary surgeries, the ones who won't admit their dogfood may be the problem in some cases.....just like any profession....car mechanic, lawyer, groomer, etc........they have to earn their respect..........

That's crazy!! They had me sign off for the testing when I dropped him off to be sure that he would be okay with the meds - I'm not sure what I was charged for that, but I would have payed whatever it was so I knew he would be okay. They said it wasn't mandatory, but they suggested it. I wonder if they just started the micro chipping b/c I wasn't offered that 2 years ago. Do you know who is doing the surgery? We had Dr. Javic - Teddy was home later that night and doing great! I'll keep your baby in my thoughts - she'll do great I'm sure!!!

Wow. I go to the clinic and the spay was 35.00, all her shots were 40, there's no charge for the office visit, and if I have to go to my regular vet an office visit is 45.00
