I know half the stuff online is boggus but is this? Check out this website and please tell me this is wrong! That Dog food CO.s don't really do this sort of thing. Is this guy just out for $$$$ or is he for real? Do any of you know of have any experience with this. http://www.dogfoodkills.com/ebook.htm I would just hate for this to happen to my baby I love her so much! BTW I feed Lullabelle "Just a wee bit" she loves it and It is supposed to be really good for her. Anybody who can help clear this all up would be greatly apreciated! | Looks like a very over sensationalised resource to me. However it is true that commercial dog foods can do more harm than good. If you have to feed a dog food, choose a good one, scour the ingredients very critically and don't just go with what the vet advises, they are on commision from the food companies and usually don't know alot about nutrition at all. Personally, my dogs are fed on a raw diet and all of their treats are home made. |

YT Addict | "Just a wee bit" has Bisson and Salmon as it's first two ingredients it is supposedly a great sorce of Protein and bella likes it allot. I heard good things about it so I switched from Royal C. b/c it gave her really bad gas. I just hope that this dosn't happen to my baby girl! |

| I don't know about that book but you can research dog/pet foods for yourself on the internet. I think after some research you may find it to be true. I myself have stopped feeding any and all dog foods and now only feed real food to my dogs. One should wonder why on most things made for dogs to eat it says "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION" If it's bad for us what makes them think it should be good for our dogs? Just my thoughts on the subject. | Well, I skimmed the site because I don't need to buy their book and read sensationalized claims to know the truth. Yes, less than reputable companies put downed animals in the food. The word "rendered" basically means melted down anything - diseased cattle, etc. And it is true that some foods are the equivalent of giving your kid a multivitamin and then letting him eat twinkies 24/7 with no other source of nutrition. It is true that the "guaranteed analysis" measures protein, but the analysis won't tell you if the protein came from chicken meat or another less than desirable source. Yes foods like "Beneful" can claim to be complete and balanced and play to your senses by showing carrots and peas on the bag, when there is nothing complete or balanced about that food. My suggestion, rather than read the book and scare yourself, is to first switch your dog to a REPUTABLE company - one you can't buy at Petsmart or the grocery store - like Canidae, Innova, Merrick or Orijen. Second, pay $20 and get a year's subscription to Whole Dog Journal. www.whole-dog-journal.com

| I am probably one of the few people that agrees with that site. It really does reflect my views on the subject. Ellie is on kibble right now because of a medical problem (it is not Science Diet though). I am collecting info and will be going back to homemade after I talk to a nutritionist. I don't think that meat baked into little kibbles that sit in a bag for atleast six months is a healthy choice at all, but sometimes we have no choice or don't have time to feed homecooked or are not comfortable with raw. I don't like canned either though. It is meat in a can. I don't think it is healthy for me, so I don't think it is healthy for Ellie. That is why I am such a strong supporter of homecooking (or raw if the puppy parent is comfortable with it).

YT Addict | Okay well I did think about cooking my Bellas food and just stop buying dog food all together when that whole recall stuff happend, but I am not a canine nutritionist and I don't really know what I could feed her every day that will be good for her. I give her tuna on occation (only from a pouch b/c of the mercury in the caned stuff) Every so often I give her an egg and maybe if she is really good I will give her a peice of steak (not seasoned of course) My husband said that he knows ppl who give their dogs liver.? Like I know that allot of ppl food is bad for dogs but I guess I am so used to cooking for ppl that I would be afraid to give her something that could harm her. Call me paranoid but I just feel like nothing is safe for her anymore. |

| LullaBelle, it sounds like a nutritionist would be able to help you. I know it can be scary to step out and cook. They would be able to give you recipes (for a LARGE fee) if you aren't comfortable using recipes from books. If you still can't bring yourself to cook, just feed the dog food that you feel is the highest quality.

Thank you! Well I thought I was feeding her the highest quality. Just a wee bit is a Solid Gold product for small dogs but when I saw that website it scared the daylights out of me! I may not be rich but I am not a dolt either, I thought about a nutitionist but if canine nutionists are anything like ppl nutionists they all just tells you something different, I knew better than to ask a vet b/c I know they get commisions.( I also learned that on YT ) That is why I thougth about cooking for her but you are right it is really scarry to think that if I mess up it could hurt my baby. My first thought when I saw this was OMGosh is this for real? My second was I bet the ppl on YT would know about this. So I posted here. You all have been great please keep the advice coming. | Mostly it's bad to feed "table scraps" because they're full of seasonings and salts and condiments...Dogs can eat many human foods like veggies, fruits (no seeds), meats like chicken, lean ground beef, lean ground turkey, etc. Pork and turkey skin are very fatty and bad for them though. Stay away from fatty foods. I also homecook for my furbabies, so they only get human foods including treats. If you homecook, it's important to read a good book on it and know what supplements to add...

YT Addict | YT is a salvation! Thanks everybody for the great advice. I was checking out the Solid Gold website and a few of my fears were laid to rest but I still am haveing a hard time accepting everything they say as gospel I mean they would know since they make the food. yet are they telling the 100% truth? I feel better knowing that allot of other yters feed their babies the same food. So I guess what I will do is look for a cook book for my bella and maybe try a few home cooked meals for her but I will keep her on Solid Golds "just a wee bit" so she doesn't get hooked on always wonting ppl food. She beggs enough as it is for ppl food I don't want to enable her too much in that persuit. Any recomendations for a good cook book? Thanks again everybody you all rock! |
