Vomiting for Two Days Now! My 1 year 4 month old Yorkie (Boo Bear) has been vomiting now for two days straight. We took him to the vet today, but are still concerned since two possibilities were explained to us. The first cause was a gastrical problem which is being treated now with a prescribed diet and medicine, but the other possible cause (intestinal blockage of some sort) is pretty scary to me. He is acting completely normal, very active, playful, his normal self, but after eating, anywhere from 2 - 5 hours later, he will vomit. Immediately after vomiting he is good to go again like nothing happened. The vet didn't seem to concerned about the possibility of some sort of blockage (X-Ray did show something in his stomach, but the vet said it could be food from earlier), but it just doesn't seem like something I want to wait on too long if there is indeed something in his system that is stuck! He hasn't gotten sick since this morning (9:00 am), since then we've been feeding him only a tiny portion (one tablespoon) every two hours. Let me know what you all think! Thanks Sean

| Welcome, Sean! Sorry your baby is sick ... did your vet mention quantity of food? Our Toto is almost 17 months and 4 lbs ... she is only supposed to be eating about 1/4 cup total food per day. Seems like an awfully small quantity but when you consider how tiny her little stomach must be, I guess it all makes sense. I generally give her 1 T. in the morning and 1 T. late in the afternoon. We also leave her a tablespoon or so of dry food and plenty of fresh water available at all times [lots of water is important if they are vomiting, since they can easily dehydrate]. Keep us updated ... can't wait to see pictures and hear all about your Boo Bear!!

The fact that he feels fine between bouts is encouraging. But if the medicine doesn't clear it up after a couple of days, I would take him back to the vet. Bettyeanne may be right about the amount of food you are feeding. Feeding him tiny amounts every few hours as you are now, sounds like a good plan until it clears up. Both our Higgins and Pogo are outdoors a LOT and nibble outdoors stuff now and then. Will occasionally toss the stuff up and we keep a close watch. Overall, they have developed iron stomachs and tolerate most things well. Keep us posted! And welcome to YorkieTalk!

Thanks for the advice and the support. He got sick again this morning and we are taking him back to the vet. The vet is thinking he has probably eaten something that has gotten lodged in his stomach or intestines. As much as I hate to see the little guy have surgery, I am thinking that might be what we need to do to get whatever is in there out. I'll keep you all posted when we get updates from the vet. We are pleased at least that he still is as active as ever. His great little (actually big) attitude hasn't changed a bit. Sean

Sorry to hear about Boo Bear, Sean, have you tried to limit his food amount at all? Hope the vet finds out what's wrong with him soon.

No Diagnosis Yet Hello to all. Thank you for your advice and concern for Boo. I am Boo Bears Mom. I took Boo to the vet on Wednesday now it is the Monday after. I finally have Boo back home but without any answers to our questions. Boo was given meds for vomitting,Science Diet I/D and xrays and was sent home last Wednesday. Thursday morning the vomitting persisted there was no liquid found in it and it was in tubular form as if it had never been digested. He continued to have normal bowel movements and urinated normally. I took him back to the vet for a Barium series. The vet thought the barium had not covered all the stomach but did completly move through the large and small intestines. Boo maintained a happy, alert, attitude and never seemed sick at all. The vet decided to keep Boo and proceed the following day with a Exploratory Laparotomy surgery to rule out there was a foreign object blocking digestion. Upon surgery remnants of small bits of rawhide chew sticks were removed but no other objects were found. He had to stay at the vets office Thursday through Monday that alone was such trauma for all of us. Tonight we have him home and he is recovering well from major surgery. The vet said he had vomitted twice today. We are waiting to find out lab results from tissue taken from Boo's stomach and intestines. So tonight the vomitting persists we are feeding small amounts of boilded egg or science diet ad. Again Boo wants to play and no confusion no other symptoms just throwing up. Please any advice?

Has he had boiled egg before? I would suggest not giving him anything new to eat, or maybe just dry food, but that's just me. If you cleared it with your vet, then of course that should be okay. Only thing I can suggest is that he has plenty of water and he drinks it throughout the day.
