| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hey, I'm in Phoenix too! ![]() My main staple for my guys is chicken breast - I boil 2 on Sunday with some butter (tsp) and Spike seasoning thrown in - for about 7 minutes. I cut into large strips, then throw it in the blender (yes, the blender) - and it shreds the chicken perfectly! They get chicken w/ parmesan sprinkles twice a day (w/ all their vitamins, etc.) - and have Orijen for grazing. I am pretty much grain free as this is best for them. (this is why grain-free kibbles are always rated best) For a back-up or for travel, I use canned, low-sodium chunk chicken and shred it w/ fork. I sometimes switch things up by using ground turkey, beef, or tuna. One very important note, if homecooking - you MUST supplement. I use Pitcairn's recommendations, but NOT the specifics bc you end up having to give too many individual supps for my taste, very inconvenient. I use Solid Gold's Bone Meal (calcium) and the following one for multi vit/mineral, probiotic, digestive enzymes, and EFAs etc: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...at/999065.aspx Good luck and good for you for home cooking!

And you stated you give them supplements daily? If I read it correctly you give 2 supplements and just once a day? What do you give your little ones for snacks...? I am going to be checking into Canidae and Orijen for Kibble, right now she is on Royal Canin which I will not be buying again. Thanks for your help..any adivce that you can give a newbie homecooker would be helpful. Surely do not want to make her sick or feed her something that she cannot have. Christina | |

Happy to help! **I give about 1.5-2T of the chicken (approx.) in the a.m. and the p.m. - and they have Orijen for grazing (Canidae is great too!) **I do give only 2 supplements, and they cover all the bases: Solid Gold's Bone Meal (for calcium) and the one linked above for the rest. I give the calcium in the morning and the multi in the evening bc they're both powder - and I don't want to give it all at once. You can decrease the recommended amount a bit since you'll use some kibble too. **Treats: bully sticks, baby carrots, supervised "chewy" chews, Zukes chews (very healthy), Denta Bones, Kong Good luck! Ann

| Hi there! Just want to give another Another good carb you can substitute for oatmeal or rice is a sweet potato. Just wrap it in a wet paper towel and stick it in the microwave for 5 min. or until soft inside. Then scoop out the inside and mix it with a protein (I use raw ground turkey or veal) and some veggies (carrots are great). and like others said - don't forget the supplements! Good luck! |

Just don't forget to poke the sweet potato a few times with a fork first, or you'll have mashed sweet potato fireworks!
