What is the Best premium food for 3yr old yorkie

I'm looking to change Otis and Oliver to a premium food. Otis has hayfever but the vet didn't feel his diet had anything to do with his allergies. Just looking to get an opinion of which food everyone thinks is best!! And if you could add, where you buy the food.... online, in what store, etc.

My mom loves to feed her maltese the Natural Balance Duck & Potato...He was having some allergy issues which have subsided since he has been on this food.
And my aunt loves to feed her yorkies Merricks...I can't remember which one, but they love it and are extremely picky eaters.
Before I started homecooking for Emma, we were feeding her Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie, and she really liked it.
We also tried Solid Gold which is a really good food, but she didn't like it.
But she did used to really like the Natural Balance Duck & Potato too.
www.dogfoodanalysis.com is a great website to compare the different premium dog foods. Try to stick with 4 and 5 star foods. The 6 star foods are generally too high in protein for yorkies....

I use California Natural after researching and it is good for dogs with allergies as it has one protein and one carb not a lot of other stuff. I feed both hard and wet.

I now feed Orijen for grazing (I home cook mainly) - I was using Canidae previous to Orijen. Both are excellent! I, like you, had this same question not too long ago. I wanted to switch mine from the previous Science Diet Lamb and Rice to a better, more natural food. From all of the research that I have done, there are 3 options that I would consider:

Innova (several options), right now I am trying out the Innova EVO small bites
Canidae (three options)
California Natural (several options)

No matter what you read on here, I would do your own research, make sure you look at the ingredients of the dog foods. They should not have any of the following: by-products, "animal fat", soy, corn, and other fillers. Also, if you can't pronounce it, you probably don't want them to eat it!! The ingredients should be mostly protein then vegetables and some fruit, no carbs or fillers if you can help it.

I would also talk to a couple different LOCAL (not Petsmart or Petco, etc.) pet stores to see what they say as well. Good luck in your search!

I feed my yorkies Natural Balance Duck & Potato bc one of them has allergies. I feed my lab Canidae. If my yorkies didn't have alleriges, I would feed them Canidae as well.

I feed Flint River Ranch

there are several health foods on the market today that can say the food is essentially human quality. The difference is in the processing. Flint River Ranch prepares the food and then oven bakes it. This process changes the molecular structure of the starches into an "easier to digest" form. There is less stress to the digestive system and, to my knowledge, this is the only company using this process.

My holistic vet say's the change in a pet's health is almost always noticeable within a short time. The food is very concentrated and highly digestible resulting in less digestive health problems and smaller stools to clean up.

If my life wasn't so hectic I might switch the Yorkies food to Sojourner Farms.
It's a great product made from human quality raw grain and supplement mix that you mix at home with water, meat, and vegetables.

My vet truly believes the best nutrition is wholesome fresh foods prepared at home for your pet. He advocates fresh raw meat and vegetables with added properly prepared carbohydrates. Along with proper supplements.

Thanks everyone. There is a lot to think about here. Otis had an elevated post BAT of 53 but I'm thinking it was from the frontline I had put on him as he reacts to that. I will recheck those blood tests again soon, and hopefully it will come back normal this time, but I still want to be cautious about the protein intake just in case it's really a liver issue. I appreciate your input.
