| Brushing teeth I am a new yorkie owner and I have a couple of questions.... First, I remember hearing on the radio a couple of months ago that research has shown that brushing a dog's teeth actually introduces MORE bacteria into their mouths and in their gums than not brushing and the researchers thought it was because the brushes weren't changed out often enough. Did anyone else hear or read about that? I also wondered about how early you should start doing something with their teeth besides giving them dental chews. What about those finger wipes to clean teeth? Aren't those disposable? Second, the vet put Gizmo on Earadicate for his earmites and said to use them for two weeks. Two weeks? Why so long? Just curious.

| Petzlife oral gel is what we use on our dogs to prevent and get rid of plaque. You can apply the gel with your finger or you can use one of those finger toothbrushes like the baby ones that are soft. You should start doing this when your baby is a pup so that he will get used to you doing things in his mouth. You don't necessarily have to use the gel before their baby teeth fall out, but at least the baby finger toothbrush. It will make it much easier for you as he gets older

| Freeway's baby teeth fell out, I found a very little one on the floor near his feeding bowl ... at first you will see a double row when the permanent teeth come in. Then all of a sudden (or so it seems), there is only one row and it is the the permanent teeth ...

| I think most animals with teeth have baby teeth that fall out and are replaced by adult teeth. Sometimes I clean the toothbrushes with antibacterial dish soap and rinse them good to clean them. I would think that if you keep the toothbrush pretty clean and use toothpaste for dogs, that it would lessen the bacteria. That's what I've heard anyway
