Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm sorry he has to have surgery - you can apply thru your vets office - they should always go thru your financial options with you.... When my son's weiner dog needed emergency back surgery the vets office offered a way to finance it ..they needed a co-signer but they had the whole thing approved in hours |

| Yes, your vet should be able to tell you how to apply for care credit.

| Some Additional Resources Care Credit will not pay for the entire surgery so be prepared to raise some of the money on your own such as selling some items you don't need. It can also be difficult to get approved so you may need to have friends or family members apply for you if you get turned down. You may also want to try some of the organizations that give grants (money that does not have to be repaid) to people who can not afford vet care. A list of some of those organizations can be found here: www.cavycareinc.org/help_w_vet_bills.htm I have heard good things about www.imom.org and www.Angels4Animals.org. I'm sure that this has already been mentioned but get a second opinion and call some other vets to see how much they charge for the surgery. Its been my experience that pricing for this surgery can vary widely by vet. This is a very common surgery and should not be too expensive. That being said, you want to choose the vet you believe will do the best job and not the cheapest. Also do some research because there are various methods that vets use to fix a LP. Maybe someone in your area can recommend a good vet that has performed this surgery on their baby. I really hope that everything works out for you and my prayers go out for your precious little boy.

| If you have any colleges in or around your area that offers animal science programs, they usually do these type of things free just for the learning. Don't worry, the professors are very qualified. You can also hold a big garage sale, ask your neighbors to donate items to you so you can earn the money for the operation. Use a big clear jar on a little table for donations. Have a picture of your dog on it and the reason your raising money. Good luck. Oh, and if I were you I would be asking all the Vets. possible what their fee is, and then go from there. |

I'm sorry, dieselboy, that you and your pup are having to go through this. My advice, though, is to try not to panic. I think your vet is being an alarmist when he/she says that your pup has to have surgery within a week to prevent arthritis. That's just plain silly. Interpret that comment to mean that your pup needs surgery as soon as possible, not within a week. That will take some of the pressure off of you. Good luck!

| I took Piper in for testing. The specialitst said she had to have surgery right away. He was scheduling it with in a week & it was $5000 just before Christmas. I told him to slow down. I wanted a second opinion. I actually got 2 other opinions, & she didn't need it at all. Made me wonder what the 1st one was in such a hurry for.

| So sorry Diesel, I've been following your story, you can also put a jar at a vet's office with a picture and his story on it, if they'll let you. Pipersmommmy, I wonder if he needed the $5,000 for Christmas |
