| My Yorkie Eats........ Autumn is always outside eating leaves or mulch chips. I try and get it away from her but I just look silly as I am running after a 4lbs dog (that by the way - is very fast for something so small) that I can not catch. I spoke to the vet and he does not seem all that concerned but it worries me constantly. Does anyone else have this problem? |

| Emmy eats anything and everything when we are outside. Sometimes it comes back up and sometimes goes out! She usually does not get sick from it. Pinecones are her favorite! And yes, they can run really, really fast!!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmm, I don't have wood chips, but we do have cactus! Is this in your yard? I'm wondering if you could spritz some bitter apple in her "favorite wood pile" and maybe she'll learn the chips aren't so great? I'm sure your vet is right, but I would think a big splinter could be bad.

| Re: "My Yorkie Eats...." Suggestions: First of all, when you are home and can pay attention, keep your little one on a 6ft lead that she drags around the house--YES, INSIDE TOO. This way YOU HAVE CONTROL and will not get involved in a game of "chase' with her. Because this is exactly what is happening. I believe that you little girl has LEARNED that when she goes near those chips that Mommy chases--when Mommy chases she gets to play. I am not so sure that it is the mulch chips so much as the game you have inadvertently started with her. Secondly: When she heads for those chips with her leash dragging behind her, you can CALMLY walk to her and entice her away by re-directlng her with some very POWERFUL TREAT THAT you know she likes and will respond to. Much praise and she learns that there will no longer be a game involved when she goes near those chips and when she begins to respond to your re-direction. Make it a positive experience for her to LEAVE THOSE CHIPS ALONE. Hope this helps. Buddy and Dixie's Mom, YorkieSue |

| Boot Camp I have had five Yorkies in my life and that all get a 10+ for playiing and barking. By the way, I am not THAT OLD in case someone is doing the math on five Yorkies life spans....I had very bad luck with two of them. At any rate, we all know Yorkies are adorable. BUT, as long as so many people are making games out of bad behaviors or believing that some behaviors are simply 'cute' then the Yorkies are not going to learn rules. And if any breed needs to learn how to stay out of trouble it is this one. So, cute yes!! Allowed? NO!! These little ones can turn alpha in a nano second so people, LOL, be your Yorkie's leader and not his/her audience all of the time. In the long run, you just may save your Yorkie's life by learning how to be the alpha in the house. Just my two cents worth..... |
