| ![]() Well I asked for free samples and here is what I got: From: Dane [mailto:dane@solidgoldhealth.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 5:24 PM To: Phyberlink Subject: RE: New puppy AKC Yorkie Thank you for your inquiry, I recommend feeding small breed puppies the Just a WEE BIT formula. It is specifically formulated for smaller breeds which have a higher calorie requirement per pound of body weight than larger dogs and the nutrient profile closely matches that of the Hundchen Flocken puppy formula. Thus, it is suitable for puppies and adults alike. We don’t have samples to send out from the corporate offices. On our website www.solidgoldhealth.com, we have a store locator where you can enter your zip code and get a list of stores in your area. They should have samples you can try. I can send you a catalog if you wish, just let me know if you want one and I will be happy to do so. Best regards, Solid Gold From: Phyberlink [mailto:roger.phyberlink@netzero.net] Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 2:23 PM To: Dane Subject: New puppy AKC Yorkie I would like to try the puppy samples for my new AKC Yorkshire Terrier. I want to know what you have for the small toy breed puppy. Please provide a puppy sample to: Phyberlink as shown in the .txt attachment Thanks in advance Phyberlink Meantime, about my puppy now, My puppy was born in April 2007. She is scared to eat from a dish or any dish (period) She likes to eat directly from the floor, Recently I purchased a KONG, and I put the dry food inside and she loves to eat from the KONG, see what KONG is http://www.kongcompany.com/worlds_best.html Duchess now loves to eat from the KONG instead of dishes, and as a result she is doing two things at the same time, she is eating by playing, or playing while eating, I even noticed that she is gaining some weight! I feed her what she really likes http://www.omhpet.com/wellness/dog_w...for_puppy.html Wellness "Just for Puppy" Ever since she started eating the Wellness, she now runs fast in the backyard, she barks at anyone that passes by, and she is becoming very dominant, she is really the boss inside the house and outside the house. Her new set of teeth are beginning to show now too. Duchess is truly very resilient now. I have no idea if all of this is right, but there is no sign of sickness, but rather a lot of barking and running and full of energy, and yet she is scared of dishes, she will only eat from the KONG or the floor! very BIZARE. Also I want to thank Ceibasmom for contributing the quality food list with all the YorkieTalk members, I took advantage and this is how I purchased the Wellness Just for puppy. I have also gotten ideas on what to purchase next, for when Duchess becomes an adult. Many thanks Ceibasmom, you are a true contributer, I now feel that I should contribute something too. | ![]() We have a 6 month old female yorkie (Dixie) and she is becoming a very picky eater. We are feeding her Nature's Variety raw food along with raw food from our diet and she is now only eating only once a day. When she stopped eating three servings of the Nature's Variety I started supplementing with raw food from our diet, but she is back to eating once a day and I am afraid that isn't often enough. Any advice? Thanks, juliamaree |

![]() Juliamaree My yorkie which is 6.4lbs eats a half a cup a day of human grade dry dog food. Poops twice a day and is healthy. I give her a 1/4 cup in the morning and another 1/4c after our supper and the vet said she is chunky so I may have to cut that portion down. During the day I give her nibblets of her supper portion as treats. Treats can fill up a pup and small dog very quickly. so if she is in training you might even skip dinner and use her supper as training treats. If she is 6mnths she probably needs half of that. Depends on her weight. I used to overfeed my girl thinking it was so little food and she started to snub the food. I wonder why? She was stuffed from the day before! I hope that helps. Also I prefer dog food to food off the table as it's balanced.. for them especially in such small quantities how could they get a proper balance. Also if you cook with onions, that's not good for them, nor is many of our spices and food so you could be damaging her digestive system instead of treating her well. In dog food though I use human grade dog food now. Also it's pretty hard to switch back and forth and confusing to the dog. What do you think she'd pick dry or food from your plate? As long as they get dry all the time they don't care. To get her back to dog food. Put her food on the table where your eating and when your done give her the food and she'll think it's from your plate she'll be excited over the dry just as much. Fromm, origen, wellness. you do some research. Keep away form wheat and corn fillers they cause the most allergies. Hope that helps.

![]() A few notes from me (aka my 2 cents): Wellness does use Menu Foods to manufacture "some" of their canned formulas. When you email and ask which ones, they do a nice publicity spin and keep it vague. When a holistic vet pointed this out to us, i returned our unused Wellness dry kibble for a refund. Our yorkies did not like Solid Gold wee bits ( we feed the cats the solid gold cat food and they are looking soooo good- nice fur, less poop and even the geriatric kitty doesn't barf it up!) I wish the yorksters liked it. It's more $ but I say well worth it. And made in the US. Many "holistic" type pet food stores have the samples on hand. These are good for sampling but also for treats. A small bag of different dry food can also serve the same purpose, with less empty calories than true dog treats/snacks. And of course, don't forget the carrots! Our yorkies love raw carrots as a snack. Some of the Chicken Soup series was in recall: http://www.chickensoupforthepetlover...notes/dogs/95/ Both Wellness and Chicken Soup food are sold at my local "holistic" style petfood store, so be sure to do your homework. not everything they sell is necessarily equal. I also buy the Evanger's canned dog food. They love it. Teresa

![]() No matter how PREMIUM a dog food is, it is still loaded with preservatives and synthetic nutrients. No matter what the label says, no matter how 'organic' they say it is, it is still not good for your dog's liver and kidneys because they have to work too hard to process, digest, absorb and assimilate. The advertising companies has done their homework and gotten people to believe that their food is the best but NONE OF THEM should be fed to dogs if one wants their digestive organs to not work so darned hard. And some of the food is never digested and the poor dog is miserable. These "premium" foods DO, NOW have some better ingredients, granted, but after the first five or six (they are aware that most people are looking at only the first 5-7 ingredients these days and this is where they are smart) and some even list list an organic substance or two--good for them. After these wonderful ingredients, then what? Everything is synthetic, cafeteria style selected nutrients and vitamins and is very hard for some dogs to digest. Even those who do great on the foods do so until they reach a certain age and then the TYPICAL things begin to happen that do not need to happen. Dogs can and should live to 18+ and should die a natural deaths. But think about it. What is the norm when we lose a dog? Kidney and liver failure and we have to put them down. We are doing this to our own pets by not feeding them naturally and organically. We can predict that at a certain age their kidneys/livers or cancer will get them. Isn't that awful when it doesn't have to be? It is the foods we are feeding them, I am now more convinced than ever about this. Why is it that WE have to always put them down and that so few dogs die naturally or old age? Because of what we feed them..this is the basic reason. So, after years and years of agonizing, I no longer use commercial products unless they are pre-made organic or at the very least hormone and antibiotic free. I use REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTS and my dogs, even the two sick ones, haven't needed a vet in almost a year. Just thought I would pass along some knowledge and thoughts on this 'premium dog food' topic. Good luck to all. Yorkie Sue Last edited by YorkieSue; 03-23-2008 at 05:24 AM. Reason: spelling, grammar

![]() As we will get our new yorkie puppy in a short while, I am concerned about the best food. We are worried with the awful scare last year with the pet food supplier/s that killed so many dear pets. Am I better to buy only from the vet or can I buy quality, Safe food from a pet store. Also with such a tiny puppy, what treats and sizes are appropriate for a little one? We are so excited and are still throwing names out there. I went to petland to buy some supplies yesterday but didn't buy anything but a book. The bowls all looked so big, the harness and leash as well. We are in for a long learning curve in the weeks to come and any suggestions, and valuable would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for everyone's patience to a new puppy owner! ![]() Cheryl
