| This is very frightening! The same contaminant in a different ingredient? Melamine in both wheat gluten and this rice protein? Well maybe that will help them trace the origin better -- could it be a grain mill? Machinery used for both ingredients processing? I so much want to think no one would do this purposefully but I also have to wonder. I also learned something new here -- had no idea that a product could add an ingredient and take 3 months before they changed labels!!! What about deadly allergies? How can we ever be sure of anything? I just got a shipment of 2 cases of Canidae dog food and have plenty of their dry as well. I am fervently hoping it remains in the safe list. If not, I will just go back to cooking chicken for mine.

| I know this is about to turn into something larger. Natural Balance does not make their own dry food......its outsourced. If thats not bad enough, its outsourced to Diamond Pet Foods to make their food. Yes, Diamond Pet Foods makes Natural Balance. |

| BANNED! | Here's the food recalled so far from this new update: Second Tainted Pet Food Ingredient Found By ANDREW BRIDGES, Associated Press Writer Wednesday, April 18, 2007 An industrial chemical that led to a nationwide recall of more than 100 brands of cat and dog foods has been found to contaminate a second pet food ingredient, expanding the recall further. The chemical, melamine, is believed to have contaminated rice protein concentrate used to make a variety of Natural Balance Pet Foods products for both dogs and cats, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. Previously, the chemical was found to contaminate another ingredient, wheat gluten, used by at least six other pet food and treat manufacturers. Natural Balance said it was recalling all its Venison and Brown Rice canned and bagged dog foods, its Venison and Brown Rice dog treats and its Venison and Green Pea dry cat food. |

| They pulled more blood from my babies and are running a special urinalysis. A protein/creatine ratio test. Both had very high BUN levels and for whatever reason Chan's glucose was out of whack. We'll know by tomorrow....Vet is hopeful so I'll stay that way too!

oh god kim, i'm sorry you have to go through this with your guys. Hopefully they weren't on the bad stuff long enough for it to cause any long term problems. one of my co-workers has a cat that was being fed the recalled nutro pouches. She had blood work done one week and it was absolutely horrible and said she was in kidney failure. after two weeks of being off the recalled food and on a kidney food diet/maintenance diet her blood work was looking a lot better which gives us hope for dogs and cats that weren't eating the food for very long. hopefully your two will be ok. did your vet tell you to do anythign special at home with them? make sure they drink more water? put them on special food? or is he waiting for hte protein/creat test to come back?

The only home instructions I have is to try and get them to drink more water, absolutely no kibble of ANY brand and if there's any changes.....more urination, less urination, vomiting, lethargy...I'm to call right away. They pulled today's blood from the neck...said it was more accurate. I mean I could buy it if one of their blood results were bad and a lab error...but not both. Both BUN are way high and for whatever reason Chan's glucose is at 385. I am so beyond upset about this....I just want tomorrow to come and have them tell me my babies are OK.
