How big is your little girl? That would probably make a big difference when you would want to spay. My vet recommends around 6 months, but if she is very small, I personally would want to wait longer or not do it at all. Just my opininon of course. I know that most people would disagree with me here, but I'd rather keep a good eye on her during her heats twice a year so she wasn't mated than risk her life during the anesthesia and surgery of the spay. Spaying also helps lessen the occurance of life threatening problems when they are older. It's a personal choice of what you think is best. Also it's not sad that she doesn't have a litter. How would she know any different?

Hello, The reason for getting a dog spayed or neuterd is not because of thier weight. There are a couple different reasons. Some people agree with them and some don't. I have a 8 year old female yorkie. I never thought of getting her spayed. I had no reason to. I wasn't breeding her or anything, I just didn't feel it was nessasary. Some people get thier dogs fixed because they don't want the chance of them getting pregnant or getting another dog pregnant. Some people do it for health reasons. Mine was for health reasons. One day I was scratcing my dog's belly and I felt a lump. A week later I felt another. I knew this wasn't normal, so I took her to the vet. He told me that with female dogs that aren't spayed and, if they aren't bred then they can develope brest lumps. He said it was more common in smaller breeds than larger. He said that if they werent removed than she could develop more and they could be cancerous. So we had her spayed and the lumps removed. They weren't cancerous thank God. But another thing that can happen with female dogs that aren't spayed is a uterus infection. Puss can develope and the uterus can sweel and cause death. I'm not sure of all the details of all the things that can happen ( I'm not a expert) But I think that to lessen the chance of health issues in the future you should spay your female, unless you are going to breed her. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it helped or I hope you find help!!

If you breed her it will lessen the chance of her getting the lums also, because of something to do with her hormones.

We spay and castrate all of our dogs now only ever left one whole and she went on to get breast cancer - by the time she had lumps it was too late it had already spread to her womb and lungs. I never ever want to go through that again !

| Another risk of unspayed females I read about is if they go into heat and they mate with a much larger male, the puppies can become too large and kill both the mother and the puppies.
