| BARF-ers A friend of mine (she's also a breeder) is a BARF-er. She only feeds her dogs Bones and Raw Food. Her dogs have amazing coats, incredible teeth, strong bones and appear to do so well. She feeds turkey, chicken, lamb as well as peas, corn, carrots, wheat germ and more to her dogs. She gives them turkey neck bones and they love it. AND her husband is a vet and he highly recommends it. With all the commerical food issues I wonder if I should heed her advice and put my girls on it. Does anyone else BARF? What kind of experience have you had? What do you feed? |

| Some Vets will say it's fine while others are set against it. I tried a raw chicken leg on a Min-Pin foster once and he swallowed the entire thing and I nearly had a heart attack. I called the Vet. and he said not to feed raw, that they can and do get salmonella poisioning. Since then I had a friend who's dog died of salmonella poisioning and she was feeding raw chicken. I just don't want to take those chances. My grandmother gave her Boston real food (cooked) and the dog died at 23 years old. I fed all my dogs real food for 50 years. I've never yet had any of the ones I raised have any health problems or allergies. |

| I have not fed a raw diet but have been considering it and researching. I came across this site today and now I have decided I will just cook for them instead. I cant take chances with possible bacteria, it being passed from animal to animal or animal to human. Too much of a risk for us, I have young children as well which the dogs love to kiss.... http://www.secondchanceranch.org/tra...eat/index.html

Yorkie Yakker | We raw feed There are so many advantages to raw feeding, all I can say is do your research and let that guide you. I gagged when I did mine, which answered my suspicions regarding my previous dog. I don't cook because dogs/cats need the added enzymes; another advantage is they're not as thirsty. By the way, Gigi lost her bottom baby teeth gnawing on meaty bones. I'm waiting for the top baby teeth to come out, that'll save me $150. By the way, her breath has improved by 50% !!!! I think the greatest surprise was that her poop disintergrates within 24-hours and doesn't smell. Makes for easy clean up and disposal. |

| I feed lilo 2 Natures variety meddalions a day plus 1 oz of raw beef meat. She is doing great on it, and so far I had no problems with it. her coat is super shiny now, and it doesnt get as oily. Also another plus is that she doesn't get gas anymore.

| I have been feeding Nature's Variety for about 3 weeks now (they also eat Canidae dry - about 10 pieces a day - as well as steamed green beans and 1/2 of a sardine). Roxy and TJ love it! It is very easy....BUT....there's something that doesn't make me feel right. There are so many conflicting reports - some are good - some are bad I just can't find the right information to make me feel like this is the best route And it is very frustrating! I am going to buy this food tomorrow and see if they like it as much as NV. I think I like this comapny b/c they are made in a Human Grade Facility - NOT A PET FOOD PLANT The Honest Kitchen www.thehonestkitchen.com I am going to buy the Double Pack Original Small Double Pack $55.00 (4 lbs each, Verve (chicken) & Force (beef)) I figured it out that this will feed 2 Yorkies 2 times a day for aprox. 64 days. The cost to ship if I buy online is $10.00 - So, it will cost me $1.00 a day to feed 2 dogs 2 x - or $0.25 each meal - Which IMO is really not bad at all - It's Human Grade Food, manufactured in a Human Grade Facility under the FDA |

I'm looking into home cooking for my two. My only concern is giving them the vitamins they need. If anyone has any nutritional info or websites they know of, regarding cooking a well-balanced, nutritionally complete diet, I'd appreciate it! Thanks again.

| I just got confirmation that my order was shipped today! I am thrilled that this food is made in a Human Grade Food Facility - regulated by the FDA |

| But, did you guys know that dog food companies can say what every they want? They are NOT government regulated. It isn't hard to fix real food, and it's healthier and cheaper. Thank you so much LYZ517 for that post. I personally have no friends who feed raw, but I'll save it for just in case purposes. |
