Rabie Shots Hi Everyone, First Post. I have a 7 month old Yorkie who is going for his Rabies Shot tomorrow. My breeder told me not to gove him this shot because of horror stories such as blindness. However I can't get Ollie neutered until he has this shot. Has anyone heard anything about not giving Yorkie's Rabie Shots?

The breeder I purchased my yt from said no more rabies shots. From all the horror stories that I have heard I don't thing that she will get anymore. But I will consult my breeder again about the whole matter.

it is the law that all dogs must get them (m) And just so you know, if your dog ever got out and nipped a child (I am the mom of a child who was nipped by a neighborhood cat, so I know about this) - you will have the police at your door asking for your vaccine records. If you haven't done the vaccine, your pet will need to be quarantined for 10 days to make sure that there are no signs of the disease. Or the child will need to get Rabies Shots (said as the mom of a child who had to get Rabies shots...) You should find a vet whom you trust and discuss your concerns. Some Rabies vaccines are every year, some are every 3 years, and state laws vary.

Just wondering what the best age to get Rabies done is? Tetley's 6 months old tomorrow and I'm thinking he's due to get it soon?

That's a good age. My breeder said at least six months. I've read other posts that said their breeder or vet told them at least five.

I have heard that you don't have to get them every year. Every 3 years is plenty enough, but if you plan on traveling, groomers, walking in public, etc it would be in your best interest to have one. It is a law that you have to have them every year. They wouldn't let us into Canada without proof that he had his rabies shot. I know most groomers want proof too, plus what if something happens on a walk somewhere... Better safe than sorry I guess... I do get my Yorkies that are at college with me all their shots every year. My parents have my 3 year old yorkie turned farm dog at home, and I am only doing hers every three years. Only because she never leaves the place. I groom all my dogs, so it's not a problem.

| As long as we don't go to United States with N'Stein my vet prefered not to give him a rabies shot. She's saying that it may cause a lump.
