| My two will eat almost any vegetable I give them as long as they see me eat them first. I would not recommend onions or mushrooms though. My have eaten tomatoes without a problem. In fact they ate my tomatoes from my garden before I could even pick them some times. Cozy for want ever reason loves and I mean loves nuts. She hears the could of a shell open and almost breaks her legs to get to them. Her fave is pictasshio nuts. I only give her a few no more than 4 but the cats her partners in crime have thrown the container with the nuts in it down to her and she has eaten God only knows how many she ate. Very thirty but nothing else. |

| Personal chose Cozy likes her carrots raw but Lucky likes his carrots cooked. I think it is a texture preference. Raw is healthier than cooked but overall it doesn't matter. They eat some veggies raw and others cooked. |

| Avocados, Apples, Tomatoes Quote:
My father-in-law has been allowing his dogs to lick the spagetti pot and that's mostly tomatoes. His lapso lived to 15 with no problems. So I didn't think tomatoes was an issue. I have not given her any yet. I was told by my vet that the dogs love garlic. Mine runs away if i give her a sniff of a tiny piece. The avocados I was surprised at. But it's in the same sentance as apples being toxic. I didn't know since it's so healthy for us. Has anyone fed their dog avocado and had any issues? I gave her a tiny piece she loved it but I've seen no problems from that and it was a good week ago. I'll definatly keep it away from her now.. But im curious. and the apple warning has me stumped. It's even an ingredient in some dog treats. Oh and carrots Susu loves them... I noticed though a couple of little chunks is enough anymore and it's bum washing time. I guess that would depend on how much human food they are used to. Beans... hmmm was afraid to give her anything after I read about the avocados. I had a list of poinson foods for dogs that I keep close and that was not on the list. But then not many vegetables are, just the usual, onions, choc, mushrooms, etc.. | My friends laugh at me when I tell them that Sparky gets carrots, broccoli, celery yogurt and cottage cheese. They say those are people foods and its not normal for dogs to at them. Sparky will beg for a veggie every time I open the frig. I have never seen a dog love raw veggie's so much. I try to limit him to about 2 baby carrots and 2 sprigs of broccoli a day. Today he tried a couple small bites of apple and loved it. He loves his yogurt and cottage cheese, also. I give him a teaspoon of yogurt each morning after he eats his breakfast of Merrick's, and then in the afternoon he gets a couple teaspoons of cottage cheese, then for supper he eats his Merricks with a little chicken baby food. Yes, he's spoiled. He is my baby. |

| veggies????? when you first gave these veggies did your dogs get loose stools (wash bum time?) How big are the dogs. My yorkie only weighs 6.4lbs. If I give her a couple of slice of carrots or apple the next day I'm having to wash her bum. She sure loves them... but... and when she chewed on a plant I took her to the vet and the vet gave her antacids and said a touch of milk once per day for a couple of days but no more as dairy is hard for their bodies to digest and they will grow up with digestive problems and may be immediate problems with the runs. I gave her a a tbsp and she was fine, a little cheese and she was fine. So I don't know how true that is.. but i avoid giving her dairy with concerns of future problems. I guess it may depend on their weight as well? Last edited by vierah; 02-23-2007 at 06:22 AM. Reason: add |

Yeah, Izzy's stool is a bit softer than normal when I give him veggies or fruit. He's 4.5 pounds. I think it is okay as long as their stool isnt runny.

| I'm also surprised about apples. My babies love them and have bites every day. No problems with stools or anything else...

| Veggies Jackson loves all veggies - especially if they're crunchy: Lettuce, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, etc... |

| This site says apples, appricot, cherries, peaches and plums, if they eat the leaf , stem or seeds. What about the fruit itself?? I never eat the parts listed why would I give them to my baby's? I'm confused. http://www.dog-first-aid-101.com/toxic-foods.html Yesterday I gave my dogs two spoonful of garlic each. I had no idea it's not good for them... they loved it! I'm such a bad mom! |
