| Some puppy's eyes just take longer to open. I would not be concerned just yet. I prefer to keep my puppies until they are 10 to 12 weeks old, depending on the puppy's size and how well it is eating. |

However, even if the x-ray indicates the pups are not too large, that does not mean that she still won't have complications during the whelp and require one. You need to educate yourself on what signs will indicate that she is not whelping as she should. There are alot of factors to consider that play a crucial role in the equation: --How big is your girl? How old? --Does she come from a line of free whelpers? --How big was the stud? How does his size compare to that of other dogs in his pedigree? --What about your girl's pelvic structure? Honestly, at this point, you should have already been prepared to handle the situation. My honest advice would be to try to find an experienced breeder in your area that would be willing to assist you during the whelp. I'm afraid that you don't have enough time yet to adequately prepare yourself for what lies ahead--someone with experience will be able to offer you, and more importantly your female, the help and expertise needed. Best of luck. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 08-19-2008 at 05:18 AM. | |
