| Shots Tomorrow, I have to take Charlie in to get his 3rd round of shots. I asked the vet about having the Rabies shot later and not having them together. I have heard some scary things about getting the last round of shots. The second set was not that bad, he did really well. What can I expect? I tried to find a vet that specialized in small breeds, but I did not find anything in my area (Reno, NV). Is there any precautions that I should take or anything that I should know before I take him in? Last edited by Mandee; 05-10-2005 at 03:30 PM. |

| There have been reports of vaccinations being useless for dogs, but usually if he does fine the first few rounds, it should be okay the third round as well. Here's the post from the FAQ: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...3438#post63438 |

| Charlie did well today!!!! No Yelping this time, he hardly even noticed it!!! Cash_BB: I don't know what is typical, but Charlie got 2 shots today. He would have gotten 3, but I did not let the vet give him his rabies yet b/c I did not want it to be too much for him all at once. The vet actually said that he would not have given him all three at the same time any way cause he's so little. I checked to make sure that the vet did not give him any Lepto, and he said that the manufacture that he uses takes it out of the puppy vaccinations. This isn't true with all manufactures, so double check with your vet. He said the dogs only need it if they are out on the "range" animals. It is transmitted in water where infected animals have urinated. Also, he said that if your baby has a hard time with the shots that you can give 1/2 baby tylenol.

| Mandee......I also took my 12 week old Mackenzie to get her second set of shots today ...my vet does not give Lepto either..I also told him not to give her the rabies shot now, because I didn't want her to have to deal with too much at one time. She did fine getting the shot...she got it around 3:15....but now she is not feeling too well...she wont let me touch her in the area that she got the shot...she yelps badly if I do .....I guess she seems sleepier then usual too...I suppose this is to be expected. The vet said she might not seem like herself for maybe 24 hrs I hate seeing her like this..she looks so sad I hope she will be ok... |

| Neecy... I am sure she will be okay. Charlie had a harder time with his second set too. Try the baby tylenol if she is really whimpy. Hugs and kisses from Charlie and Bella.

| Hey Cash_BB- Pups get a number of shots... most def not just three. I can think of a few that Mojito has gotten or will get: DA2PPV Rabies (Required in NYS) Kennel cough (Bordetella) Take a look at the link below just to get an idea (this is the vet I take Mojito to but different vets choose to give shots at different times) I would also say that you should feel comfortable with your vet. If you're (even slightly) questioning her/his actions, move on to someone else... Best of luck!!! Mojito & Irmi |
