| Simon just got his booster today...and he hasn't been himself since...I can not sleep and he doesn't want to get up and he whines or yelps when I touch him...I am so scared that something is going to happen to him...I had no idea that these little babies could have an allergic reaction to the dhlpp shot.....there are no after hour clinics here and I have had no sleep, and don't know what to do...I guess I will just tough it out until the Vet. office opens... |

If they aren't, it is an emergency. Do you have Children's Benadryl on hand in case this gets out of control? Lethargy, sleepiness, inappetence and pain can be normal reactions. He may need pain meds to help get over this. Off-colored gums, vomiting excessively, swelling, unresponsiveness and collapsing are more of a concern. He needs to drink so he doesn't dehydrate and I would call the vet to see what they say.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Personally, I would not get Lepto for my babies, ever. It is not worth the risks. There are TWELVE cases ANNUALLY (average) reported in California -- that should tell you how rare the disease really is. Btw, it is *not* up to your vet as to what shots to give - it's up to YOU . Most vets will push and push vaccines to no end, bc they cost about $2, but charge $20 - revenue! Overvaccination is so dangerous for our dogs and we should all be advocating to end this process.A link for you: Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs

| Here's an interesting article: March 31 If lepto "has" to be given (and I'm not convinved that any lepto vaccine is safe for any Yorkie), it really does need to be given separately.

| I'm sorry it has taken me so long to update with a post...but Simon is ok now, I took him as soon as the vet opened and they gave him a antibiotic shot is that normal? Anyway, he is finally back to his old self and I am glad because I was so scared I was going to lose him. I did not sleep at all that night, I couldn't stop checking on him. Never again will I let them give him a Lepto shot....thanks Ellie May for the reply post...take care... |
