| Dogs Get Depressions? I've searched the entire forum and not sure what to look for. My 2 year old Spikey recently has become afraid of the floors. Reason being is that I am renting an apartment and the owners had the hardwood floors triple coated with lacquer so it's extremely slippery. So, Spikey is afraid to walk around meaning he won't go on the floor to walk over to drink, eat, pee and poop. So, I brought him over and he was nervous and didn't want to do anything. I tried hand feeding but he didn't want none. I can solve the floor problem by getting a big area rug so he's more comfortable with the floor and walking. This happened within a 2 days now. He's also pulling and chewing on his own hair. He's got allergies so I know he's itchy. The vet had prescribed him antihistamines as well. Those seems to be working a bit but there's the hairballs everywhere. He's playful when I play with him. He doesn't seem lethargic or looked pained. I do hear gas-like noises in his stomach which sounds like something is digesting or passing through his system....sounds like queasy farts. I'll have him checked out with the vet but is this something out of the norm?

| Maybe I'm not reading this right, but it doesn't really sound to me like there is anything wrong? Did you just recently move into this apartment, or have you always been there and he's just suddenly acquired this fear of the floor? If you've just moved then I would say his behavior is perfectly normal - any change in their routine can result in the behaviors your described (unwillingness to eat, drink, etc.) and he may just be unsure of where he is supposed to do his business now. Is he pee pad trained? My dog Oscar is a big boob about the wood floors in my apartment as well. I have two huge area rugs in the main living area and he's fine on them, he seems to pick and choose when he is okay with walking throughout the rest of the apartment though. He'll be fine for a couple months, then one day he'll just stop walking on them. For the past couple weeks he's developed an aversion to one little 3 foot section of flooring in particular - the section right before the carpet starts. He paces back and forth in front of the wall as if he's planning how to get across - then he MOONWALKS - he turns around and seriously does like a moonwalk backwards onto the carpet. ANYWAYS... the sounds that his stomach are making sound normal as well. Sounds like normal digestion sounds. Like I said I'm not sure what you were asking - it doesn't sound to me like your dog has any signs of depression.
