| I have been reading alot about vaccinations and whether or not it is actually necessary after the first year or so. I will continue at this point to read about them as I find the information very interesting and useful. They say the vaccines can actually cause our animals to be more prone to types of cancers, etc. We self vaccinated our cockers we bred for years. I always gave them their yearly vaccines around the time I was going to breed them because I felt it would help with the puppies immunity. After reading more and more we stopped altogether after they were 5-6 years old and done breeding. We lost our last boy this past Sunday. He was 15 years old. His mother died at 16.5 yrs and his stepfather at 16 yrs. We commented on Sunday when Jackson passed how lucky we had been with all our dogs. We never had one of them put down. They died with us, at home very peacefully. I do not have a clue as to whether this had a thing to do with the fact that we did not have them vaccinated every year. Maybe we were just lucky and it was a combination of good genes, good food, and lots of love. Who knows. I do know I will continue to look here for support and information others can share and also read as much as I can coming out about studies. Very Good Thread. Great and interesting topic to stay on top of. |

| I do three puppy shots - (parvo, distempter, parinfluenza, aden. II) no lepto, no corona; Booster (parvo, distemper, paraninfluenza, adenovirus II) no lepto, no corona one year later, then skip two years; I use modified live vaccines. Rabies somewhere around 9 months; skip two years All vaccinations cease after any of mine reach 7 years. I have never given lepto, corona, bordatello, lyme, giardia. My puppies do not have any reaction to the vaccines, they are not sleepy or anything, couldn't even tell they had anything done. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I do them at home so they don't have the added stress of the vet visit????? I will also say I have never had an "allergic" dog, but I will have to add that fleas are nonexistent here in the desert, so I don't have to use frontline or any of those other flea insecticides, but if I had fleas I still wouldn't I would go for a natural remedy because a lot of dogs have serious reactions to these products. Sweet Sophia, I definitely believe that not over vaccinating had a lot to do with their health and longevity. |

Studies are proving immunity lasts many years for parvo, distemper and rabies to name a few. Check out the new guidelines from the AAHA. You have to download it but it is worth the read. http://www.aahanet.org/About_aaha/Ab..._Canine06.html A lot of people don't realize vaccines can cause serious damage. Here is a very interesting study they did in England on vaccines… http://www.bogartsdaddy.com/Bouvier/...oncerns-uk.htm Gus is only two so his boosters where only a year ago but when the time comes we will do titers and take it from there.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I took Cali to the vet yesterday for her yearly shots, not her rabies, their was a sign up that they are now gving a 3 year distemper, parvo etc shot!!! So I told them no lepto and she got the 3 year shot with no complications and we go back in 2 weeks for the 3 year rabies and she will be done for 3 years!!!

| That is great, Patti. I had to change my vet. They wanted to give them every year and wouldn't let up about it.
