| First Season! Did you're... Okay, I've read about so many problems that Yorkies can have, I think I've become paranoid! Fancy stopped eating very much of anything, so I boiled some chicken for her. She ate that twice and then turned her picky little nose up at it. I cooked some hamburger meat, same thing. Ate it once, then nothing. I got her to eat some pastrami from a Ruben sandwich I had, but then, last night she wouldn't touch that. She stopped playing as much as she usually does and started licking her little behind. I noticed some swelling and thought maybe she was coming in season (she's 10 months old). This was yesterday, this morning, we finally saw signs on our bed where she had been sleeping last night. Today she's playing and running around more, but she wouldn't touch the chicken, or cottage cheese. She did eat a little more of the pastrami that was left, but it wasn't very much. I sent my husband to get her some nutrical and while he was gone, I cooked some bacon. She ate almost 3 pieces and ate some Sonic ice (it's our favorite). We keep a small bowl of Science Diet puppy food down for her, but she just nibbles on it even when she's at full speed. Is this normal? My Dachshunds never had a problem like this , they ALWAYS ate and acted perfectly normal. I realize I have spoiled her totally rotten (as I am reminded by my children all the time), I am just concerned. Think I will probably take her to the vet tomorrow for a check up, but please can someone tell me if theirs goes a "little hormonal"??? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was the same when she came into heat at 8 1/2 months. Always a picky eater she really became worse and didn't want to eat much. I hand fed her chickeb and hamburger. Cali also didn't want ot play or really be by us much. She was spayed during her 2nd week of heat because of other problems but after she recovered from her surgery she was a much better eater and back to her self pretty much but she really started to settle down after that.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I would not feed her any pork products. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...highlight=pork How old is she? Some dogs have learned that if they don't eat their regular kibble, owners will fix them something special. It's not a habit that I would get into. Your dog will eat what is in her bowl when she is hungry. It's like the human child that holds her breath when she doesn't get her way.

Thanks! I needed to know this was "normal" for some. My husband came back with the nutrical. NO problem with that!! I only gave her about 1/4 tsp. but she wanted more. (must be really good). Thought I'd wait till bedtime and after dinner. We having roast and that's one of her favs! Think I'm going to try another, better dry food and see if she will eat it any better. It just seems as if she likes something for a little while and then it's "no more of that". Again thanks! | |

| diet Ditto Kimberly...I had a buyer call me and tell me her boy had not eaten in 5 days...I heard him barking..I asked what he was doing..she said he was running down the hallway chasing the cat..he should have been dead..or near death..he was actually eating 1/3 cup dry and for a 3 pound Yorkie, that is enough food. IF she is healthy, active, pooping, she is eating enough to maintain good health. Pick a quality food and stick to it....Be careful changing foods, it makes them picky and they will never eat right. Try to relax..if she knows you are concerned, she has you right where she wants you...I never had a picky eater, no one died or became ill from skipping a meal or two....I always tell mine they have the choice to eat or not eat..they eat. This does not apply to pregnant, nursing females, young puppies under 4 months..or the tinies. Last edited by YorkieRose; 09-11-2006 at 08:27 AM. |
