| climbing stairs Hi All My little guy is 6 1/2 years old and healthy too . I have stairs at the side of my bed for my 2 Yorkies to run up and down with out jumping. My little 4 1/2 year old runs up and down no problem (she has short legs also). My 6 1/2 yr old at times has a problem running up the stairs....he kinda has to judge the height of the stairs or hesitates getting his bearings before running or going up the stairs. Does this sound like anything anyone elses furbaby does or does it sound like a problem in his legs. He has longer legs (but beautiful). I had the vet check him in May during his annual check up and he said he was fine. I was thinking arthritis but he said no. I would say it is the size of the steps but my female who has the traditional shorter legs has no problem and she is even a little chubbier than him. Today he didn't make it all the way up he kinda fell to the side of the step...his legs were kinda shaking like it was a strain on him. I can't tell if the shaking was from falling or if going up the stairs were a strain on his legs. Anyone???? Thanks in advance. Tina Pucci GiGi |

| Boy! I don't know. I can only think of two things. How about his sight? Are his eyes milky looking, such as with cataracts? Second would be to put sides on the stairs so he would be more secure or to add a ramp to see if he feels more secure using a ramp than stairs. Otherwise, I'm sorry, but I can't imagine what it would be if his legs are working ok. Let us know if anything works or you learn anything else.

| No, his sight is good and he can walk as far as I can all day if I wanted to (Iwouldn't do that to him of course) . But we do walk a good 45min sometimes and he loves it....runs ahead of me and just doesn't want to stop. Maybe it is just a bad day....it is mostly at night that I notice this happening. Maybe it is something to do with sight cause at night the lights are off. But then the vet never said anything was wrong with his eyes. Plenty of times he just runs right up the stairs....somehow I sense a weakness in his legs. He didn't even finish his CET chew. Well I will have to start looking into things. Thanks though for your concern. Tina Pucci GiGi |

| Over the years, I've noticed that the older vets (not necessarily old vets) don't even check their eyes. Have you ever seen your vet check his eyes? The younger vets will do that. Good luck and let us know if you learn anything.

| climbing stairs I have seen them check the eyes.....but now I wonder what they are checking for when they do......sight or other health conditions. I am not sure if the ramp would work at this point beacuse if he is feeling pressure in his legs , so to speak, I am not sure that he would not feel the same discomfort on the ramp as the stairs. This does not happen when he goes up the step on the out side of my house. It is only one step but he has no problem. And where we used to live it was about 5 steps...that was about 2yrs ago. I notices it on these steps only.......he has at other times or in the past missed a step and stumbled but we all do that. Well thanks all of you for your concern and I will be looking into what might be causing this and will keep you posted. Any ideas are welcomed. Tina Pucci GiGi |
