| To neuter or not to neuter? Okay, check out this site. I'm part of the working yorkie forum which is a Yahoo Group and this is something that was brought up and I ABSOLUTELY agree w/ the author and have years of experience seeing neutered/non neutered dogs as clients, whether they be related or just the same breed and find what the author has to say VERY true and I've been saying this for years, but its great to finally have someone of his calibre put it in writing! (give it a chance, I think EVERYONE can appreciate the last two paragraphs especially!) http://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks! I was feeling so guilty not having Cali spayed before going into heat this week. She is almost 9 months old. She will be closer to a year when I can get ger spayed. Maybe it will be better for her in the long run!

| Tubal ligations would not stop the female heat cycles would they? |

| Heat cycles aren't quite the same w/ a tubal ligation, however... Thanks everyone! It's always best to make informed decisions. Which is easier said than done since a lot of vets are so "old school" (it seems like the DVM Colleges need to update their books and open up their minds more!) that all they preach is spay/neuter and when you ask why it's more or less a "just because" response. Or the best is when they say: "If they're not gonna use it, loose it!" I have no problems w/ that, but do it intelligently. It's 2006! JeanieK, not sure. If I had to guess, I would say no. Women who have tubal ligations still get their periods (most of them anyway) and I'd think it'd be the same for dogs. The heat cycle would exist, but most likely less bleeding and less irritation and the period of bleeding should be significantly shorter on the average bitch I would imagine. I'll put a diaper on my baby and grimace and bear it knowing it's better for her in the long run, but not everyone would. Cramping is supposedly less if existent at all w/ a tubal ligation too. Thanks again! Keep on reading verifiably factual resources for the benefits of our fur babies! And remember that new studies are going on all the time, even old topics are always being updated, just keep your eyes and ears open. The topic of Nutrition, for example, is ever changing as we do new studies. |

| SnowWa SnowWa, are you serious? lol PS, my baby comes in from Hungary on the 19th of April- it's official! I CAN HARDLY WAIT! Here is her photo website link, I just posted two new photos. She's 1 lbs 3 ounces at 5 weeks of age. I hope she remains under the seven pound mark by maturity! The breeder and the three top breeders around her think so. We'll see! |

| hi, guys, So what's the difference between neutered and spayed? Does a neutered yorkie still need to be spayed? Would a neutered yorkie still make markings or go in heat? How come the lady I got my little baby from told me that my little yorkie has already been neutered so I won't be able to breed him. (He was only 10 weeks old...according to the 6 month you mentioned above) I didn't pay attention to the fact that he's neutered because I was only looking for a pet, but I'm so worried now~ Does the age make a difference? Is it bad that my little yorkie got neutered this early? (although he does seem healthy right now) I'd REALLY appreciate it if anyone can answer my questions. (This is my first time raising a yorkie, & I'm just so concern of his future well-being.) Thank you so much~ |

| Females are spayed and males are neutered. Only females go into heat. Neutering may or may not stop a male from marking. In a spay a females ovaries are removed. In a neuter a males testicles are removed. Breeders who spay or neuter the pups before the buyer gets them usually does it so they know the dog wont be bred. I dont think there are any health problems with spaying or neutering early

| We have two other dogs, plus my Yorkie. We have not decided if we will neuter my lil man, but our other two were neutered at about 5 weeks before we got them. No problems, and they are a bit over 1 year old now. |

| o~ thank god there won't be any health problem. Thank you guys for explaining so clearly & professionably! No wonder I love this forum & its people so much! Neutering does not stop a male from marking? So what can I do to stop him from doing so? Or there's just no way? I saw my friend's cocker spaniel humping my friend's foot. Would a neutered yorkie still do this? Tons of thanks to all of you again! |
