| I just noticed this thread for some reason and I have to say that I really do feel for you Bettyanne. We finally decided to cut out the Greenies entirely and it has been heartwrenching. The only time I gave one to Tatum was after her bath (once a week or every two weeks) so she didn't get them very often. She knew though that as soon as we were all done, she had to go out to potty and then in to get her greenie. That dog knew exactly what was going on. This last bath time was the first time I was going to not give her one. I tried every treat imaginable that we had to give her and all she would do was stand in front of the cabinet she knows they are in and cry! I finally gave in because I decided to try to replace it with something really similar the next time. Is there anything really similar to these Greenies that are more digestible? Those CET chews don't look the same and she already gets bully sticks occasionally. I need something really enticing to get her mind off of the Greenies. My gosh, it was awful the way she sat and whined at that cabinet. She never has done that about anything else before. I'm willing to try the CET chews but was just wondering what else there is for good oral hygiene. Thanks!

| Chattiesmom, I have done the same thing with bones for years and my dogs have never had one problem. I know that cooking them is supposed to change their molecular make-up and can make them brittle, but I have never had a Yorkie who has a bite that is that strong. I scrape out all of the marrow, cook the bones for a coupla hours and then scrub them with a brush and hot soapy water, then rinse and voila! a bone for da babes. Every so oftern, I scrub them in hot soapy water again and soak them in boullion cubes and they are good to go again..I use the non-digestible greenies-the bright chartreuse ones and also Nylabones..I scrub everything they chew with soapy water and they don't seem to mind.. |

Glad this thread got "revived" .... update on the Toto! She doesn't cry anymore and she attacks her after dinner C.E.T. "stick" just like she did her Greenies!! Thank God .... we were getting awfully weak!! We also saw Dr. Coons yesterday and he is pleased with Toto's health, as always, and totally approves of the new "sticks" ... matter of fact, he gives them to his dogs!! I also have ordered her some Flossies to try ... I want her to have something that she can just gnaw & gnaw on for a long time ... something that's safe and that she likes.

| [QUOTE=bettyeanne I also have ordered her some Flossies to try ... I want her to have something that she can just gnaw & gnaw on for a long time ... something that's safe and that she likes. [/QUOTE] Are these Flossies something similar to bully sticks or are they a specific dental thing (sounds like it with a name like flossies)? Tatum really loves her bully sticks. I had bought them to try to replace the Greenies but my gosh, she just freaked out when I didn't give her the after-bath greenie - she'd been getting one for about a year after each bath. I'm going to order some of the CET chews. I'm headed to Petco soon - not sure if they carry them (they don't have them on their website) but that's the only store we have around here. If they don't, I'll have to get a Nutrident or something for her bath this weekend (maybe the green color will fool her!! ) and then I'll order some CET chews. You know, I thought that some people exaggerated how their babies beg for something and they just had to give in. I/we've never been the type to give in to our kids or our pups (if it's something we felt strongly about) and for the most part, what we say goes as the rule. BUT this greenie thing with Tatum was really a sight to see! I was just floored by the way she cried beneath that cabinet. Amazing creatures, aren't they??!

| I'm so glad to see that people are not using Greenies if anyone is still using them PLEASE stop. I lost my 10mo. Lhasa Apso about 1 month ago. She loved her Greenies..... I gave them to her since I brought her home. One Sunday she woke up and was vomitting. There were big chucks of her Greenies in it. I just thought she hadnt chew her greenie up well and it made her sick. She vomitted several times through out the day. I didnt think much about it since she was still full of energy. The next morning she was a different dog. Weak, and still Vomitting. I took her straight tot he vet only to find out the greenies were stuck in her intestines causing a blockage and it also torn her intestines and she had been bleeding internally all day Sunday. I felt like crap!!!! They would not do surgery because they said she would not make it. I had to have Chloe put to sleep.... My whole familys heart was broken. I immediately threw alway all Greenies, wrote the company and have been trying to spread the word. We got Parker a week later. He has helped us heal but we really miss our Chloe. So please no greenies..... and spread the word... thanks - Denise- |

| I'm so sorry for your loss of Chloe. After all I've heard, we did finally decide to stop giving Tatum her once a week Greenie (after bath time). I'm not one to really jump on the bandwagon about things that I haven't been able to prove for myself but there's enough here I think to really make someone rethink the Greenie situation. It was really hard to get Tatum off of them. This weekend I gave her a Nutrident bone instead of her usual Greenie after her bath and she wasn't real happy but she only cried beneath the cabinet she knows they were kept for a minute or so. Keep spreading the word.
