| Feeding two separate dry foods? Hi All, I went to the petstore today b/c I wanted to see what kind of dry food they sold. I told the guy that I feed dry Chicken Soup and dry Royal Canin and I mix it together. He said I shouldn't mix food b/c it contradicts what each food does. Did anyone else ever hear this? Oh, and I bought dry Nutro Ultra Puppy food today b/c he said that that was really good for Baby. Well, she seems to go for the CS first, then the RC, then the Nutro. I don't think she likes it that much. Anyway...thanks in advance for your response.

| i keep two kinds down at all times because two dogs like one kind, another dog likes the other. Fortunately for me, they all eat the same wet food which they get twice a day. I free feed the dry. |

| Personally, I think mixing different foods is totally okay. My dogs eat a little wet Premium dog food every day - Iams dry food is left out for them always - and they eat leftovers, etc. They are healthy and not overweight. And - what in the world does he mean - "one food contradicts another." I'm sure a wide variety of different foods is healthy for us and for our pets too. If someone made that statement to me - I'd ask them just exactly what foods contradict exactly what other foods. I'd really pin him down on that one. And, I ask him for the source of his information - where did he hear that! And now that I think of it - my vet told me to feed my dogs two different dog foods....he suggested mixing wet and dry foods. Mainly because dogs like it and will often eat more dry food this way. Anyway - my dogs have always eaten a lot of different foods...but their main foods are Premium and Iams....plus what they can talk me out of!!! Carol Jean |

| I mix two foods too. I use Marricks dry and Royal canin dry and leave it down all day and never have had a problem. I also feed Merricks wet in the morning.

| I thought the manager was "talking out of his butt" that's why I wanted to know if anyone else had ever heard the same thing. Thanks!

| Mine do I know there are a lot of yters who feed two kinds cause I posed that question a few weeks ago. I was feeding moose only authority harvest baked but she was getting bored with it so I came on here and asked. Many do and now moose eats a mixture of harvest baked and canadie.

| i'd like to ask that manager what "contradicts what each food does" mean as well. although i have heard the reasoning for the recommendation NOT to switch or mix foods. the way it's been explained to me is that if you mix or switch, then your pet will not benefit from the long term health effects of one particular formula. kinda like how you want to stick with one skin care system (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) 'cause each component is formulated to work with each other and long term use will have better results for your skin. switching often means your skin have to keep adjusting itself to different formulas hence never giving you the benefits long term use would. i agree with the skin care system theory. i'm not sure it applies to dog food though. i like the idea of giving my little one a variety of foods and change things up every once in a while. |
