| Dandruff Hi all. Nova is 7 months old and in the past couple of months I noticed that she has quite a bit of dandruff on her back. I use natural pet shampoo only with no chemicals and even then I just put a little bit when I wash her. I am trying to avoid shampoos as mush as possible. Any ideas why this is happening? Any product in the market that can help with that? The air inside my house is pretty humid since we have a humidifier in the house. Thanks! |

| The shampoo may be drying her skin out. Rinse well and try using a conditioner, either rinse off or a leave in conditioner, or both.

| I use Yorkie Splash and shine and it’s all natural. They have a conditioner too and that’s what you pup might need. Has it just been during cold weather?

| A conditioner is not for only the hair, conditioner is for the skin, and very important.

| Mike used to have dry flaky skin last year but not anymore. Maybe this helps. I only bathe him when necessary, in summer it's once a week to 10 days. Once the temperature drops - once in a month, sometimes even up to 6 weeks. I only wash his face and head weekly with shampoo. When I bathe him I put a little shampoo in a plastic shaker bottle, add water and shake it to create foam/bubbles. I wash him with the bubbles instead of putting shampoo directly onto his skin. This prevents shampoo overuse and requires less rinsing as well. I do the same with conditioner - mix it with water, shake well and pour it all over his back. Massage it into the hair and skin, rinse. For daily use I use diy spray conditioner - water, shea butter, coconut oil, a tad of sweet almond oil and few drops of lavender essential oil (make sure your pup is not allergic to any of it). It helps with long hair detangling as well as good for skin. |

I also don’t put the shampoo directly onto her body, I put some on my hand and let it drop on her with the water. Do you think it’s a puppy phase because her hair is changing?

The issue also can be in the food, if the food is lacking omega 3 you might want to give supplements, but that must be discussed with the vet. Mike eats fish based kibble as well as I give him a tsp of coconut oil or homemade olive oil with food sometimes.
