| Best wormer to use for senior Yorkie Hello everybody, Well it's been a long time since I've been on here. I've been with Yorkie talk since my little biscuit was just a puppy. He is now 12 years old tomorrow. He is the light of my life I love him more than my life itself. Biscuit has been very healthy throughout his life thank God. I noticed that he is scooting a bit and in the morning he kind of coughs and gags. You starting to have very runny stools I have not seen any worms in them. My situation has changed a bit in the last 8 months as I quit my job to take care of my godmother who is very ill. This has wreaked havoc on my finances but I feel that it is the right thing to do. I am asking all of you what is the very best wormer that I can buy for him from a pet store or without a prescription. I hope you understand what I'm trying to do this rather than immediately take him to the vet because he is not showing other signs of illness. I would be very grateful for your expert advice |

| Scooting the butt normally means that their anal glands are full and need to be released. It would be odd for a senior dog to need dewormer and the ones that are at pet stores are not generally safe. Coughing at 12 would worry me that something is going on like congested heart failure or if he isn’t on heart worm meds I would be concerned about heart worms which can cause coughing. I know you don’t want to hear this but he needs to be checked out by a vet.

| How many days has he had runny stools? What is he currently eating? While a vet WILL often give a dewormer just in case (they are relatively safe), I'm not sure it sounds like that is the best course of action. I think if it's been more than a few days, a vet visit should be in order... but understand if finances are tight and he is otherwise OK, I would at least do a very bland diet for a few days to see if it helps. If it doesn't, something else may be up. With Yorkies, pancreatitis is always a concern and they can go downhill quickly (but if he's not in pain, then it may not be the case). I believe places like Tractor Supply sell dewormers but I am not sure. Also, have you looked into Care Credit? I've used the crap out of it lately with our vet bills lol. It lets you pay it off with no interest within 6 months. I use it for my own stuff too.
