| Freshpet brand food We've been using Freshpet brand food for both dogs for about 9 months now, and they love the stuff. But our vet told me today that he doesn't like that brand. I haven't asked why yet, but he recommends Eukanuba or Royal Canin. Anyone use Freshpet, or hear any negatives about it? |

| Have never tried Fresh Pet but Gidget has been on Royal Canin since I got her. Started out on Royal Canin for puppies then when to Royal Canin for Yorkies Adult. No problems at all. |

| My dogs didn't really take to it when I tried it but I tried the puppy one and the puppy really like it for awhile. I don't know if they have a vet nutritionist on staff, do feeding trials or have a good quality control system set up or not and that might be what your vet is worried about.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I feed raw (Sojo's pre-mix w/ my choice of raw meat) bc I think it's better for my kiddos to have fresher food. I have not heard bad things about Fresh Pet at all - and would most definitely feed it to my kiddos over kibble. It's much, much less processed - that's a good thing. Btw, unless they've further specialized in it - generalist vets often know very little about nutrition, relatively speaking. I think they can be helpful choosing prescription diets - but I've never found them well-rounded in their dog food knowledge except for Rx diets.

| I think vets know certain brands and they really stick to it (likely because those brands have been around for a very long time and they know dogs have done well on them). There are so many new dog foods out there now, so because they're newer, there's not much historic data, possibly why vets don't seem to like the newer products. If your furbabies are doing well on Fresh Pet (which seems to look very yummy btw, I'm sure my two would LOVE it), and their poop looks good (which is super important), I'd personally just stick with it. Unless your vet gives you a very good reason not to...

| I really haven't examined Prezly's poop since he goes outside, but Roxie still sometimes goes inside and it seems normal. Not excessive in quantity so I presume there's not much filler or waste in the food. |
