| Baby teeth not falling out. Hi, my puppy, Nina, is 6 months old, 3.2 lbs. Her teeth are coming in but the baby teeth in the front are not falling out. She now has a double row of teeth on the top and bottom of her front teeth. Is this normal? Will they eventually fall out? I remember having one baby tooth pulled at spaying on my last Yorkie, but I have never seen all the front teeth remain when the new teeth were in. Anyone else have this situation? |

| It's not abnormal. The vet should pull them when you get her spayed. Monroe had 4 or 5 pulled and Rylee just had 1. |

| This is very normal. I have not had a yorkie yet that didn't have to have baby teeth pulled. I wouldn't wait to long though because it can mess up the alignment of the teeth and food does get stuck between them a rot.

| Thanks for the response. She is scheduled for spaying June 20 so l will take care of them then. She looks like a little shark with two rows of teeth. |

| Not all mine have had to have them pulled, but it does seem like the smaller they are the more likely the problem. I second having them pulled with the spay. Definitely, don't let it go, food will get trapped and then you will have a bad dental problem on your hands that will hurt the gums and permanent teeth. |

Our pup also had double teeth when she was little. It affected her eating and the vet and breeder said you don't want to leave them because it can permanently affect their bite, new teeth alignment that can have lasting effects on their dental health. We had to have hers pulled before she was old enough to be spayed. It would have been nice to only have anesthesia once but she came through it very well and was back to eating within hours. So, while it's normal, it's not beneficial to leave them.

| I've learned from my other yorkies to take care of their teeth. I have been brushing them daily since I got her. She loves the CET tooth paste and is pretty good while I brush them. That is why I am concerned that the deciduous teeth have not fallen out and do not feel loose. I found 2 other teeth on the floor, but those front ones are going to need help. |

We didn't wait because it was painful for her and affected her ability to eat. She had multiples in front and back. We had thought about breeding her and let her have her first heat. But we realized when we had that experience that we were not prepared for all of that and had her spayed before her second heat. She did well with that too.

| Double rows of teeth are very common in 'toy breeds' and my wee Yorkie recently had 10 teeth removed whilst he was being neutered as it was better to do both ends under the one anaesthetic. The only problem that I faced with the surgery, it cost as much as it was to buy my wee furry faced friend. However, it was the best thing for him as those teeth would have caused problems in his later days.

| Up date Nina was spayed Tuesday and had to have 12 teeth pulled. I am surprised how well she is doing. I am feeding her softened kibble with a little can food for flavor. The Vet said she could go back to regular diet (all dry food) in one day, but I am going to feed her soft food until the can is gone. Her gums and teeth look great. She shows no signs of pain from the spaying, although she is still getting the pain reliever. I'm glad that is over, it is always concerning to have a littleone go through an operation. |

| Here in Scotland (UK) my Vet advised me not to let my pup have dry, hard kibble for at least 2 weeks. He was also given painkillers which I only had to use once the day after his surgery but he was provided with a course of antibiotics for nearly 10 days as standard practice as a precaution to infection. He is doing fine and fully recovered from his ordeal, he still steals items and growls when you try to take his precious ill gotten gains of him. He runs past us like a bullet out of a gun. Typical Yorkshire Terrier descended from the now dormant Paisley Terrier, a hardy wee breed and cheeky with it!

| The Vet said her baby teeth were not hard to pull so her gums did not bleed much. That is why she can go back to dry food so soon. I thought it was best to let her heal a few more days before giving her dry food. Fortunately, no antibiotics needed either. |
