| Health insurance For those who have it, can you tell me what kind and if you are happy with it? I have it with Healthy Paws since Chewie was a puppy, never had a claim, and they cover everything except preventative care like vaccines and teeth cleaning. I used to have it set up at $100 deductible and 90% coverage and I started at $42/month and they kept raising it until I should have paid more that $54/month, so I changed it to a $500 deductible and 80% coverage which reduced the rate to $39/month. Now I just got an email that they will raise the rate again to $45/month, so it's time to shop around... |

| I have healthy paws too and am paying $54.00 a month for two dogs. I have been happy with it so far. Changing if there are any health issues would be hard because to the other insurance it would be a preexisting condition and they wouldn't cover it.

| I don't get it then, you pay $54 for 2 dogs, and I get the premium raised to $45 for one healthy dog? I hate insurances... |

| Healthy Paws is rated #1 in insurance. I have Pet Partners. Zoey is 7 yrs old and every year she has had a claim. I have been with them for about 5 yrs. they started out with a reasonable fee. Then they went from $500 to $850 last year. Yesterday I received my renewal at $1010! I have $100 ded and 80% payback. I can't change companies because Zoey has a history of pancreatitis. She has had this several times. This really is gouging knowing I can't change companies.

| Zoey Hi. Sorry that your baby has P bouts still. I agree the insurance is getting out of hand. At the latest price, would the vet costs be more than that? I had insurance for my boy and in the end I stopped it as the price became too high. Luckily I have not had big expenses for several years, but I might regret stopping as he is 8 now and he could get illnesses in the future. But that is the risk I take. My insurance did not cover dentals, vet visits, and shots. And those expenses I had to pay myself anyway. Perhaps a good idea to get insurance for pups without preexistings and see how it goes. |

| Yep the insurance game sux! Problem with changing is that anything on their record is now considered preexisting to the new insurance company. I have Healthy Paws but have never had to use it. Cali has cataracts and will probably one day need the surgery. I mainly got it because of the cancer issues. And yes, it keeps going up, but so does my personal insurance

| Cali Yes, certainly it is a no go for insurance if an older dog and pre existings. I adopted my dog at one year old and thought he would break his legs etc as he was a jumper. So I got insurance at a good rate then. After about six months he got juvenile cataracts and had to have surgery. That was very costly so I was glad to have insurance. The surgery and recovery were very tedious and my poor dog had to go through many weeks of the hard cone and painful eye drops etc. I don't think I would put an older dog through all this having seen what it entailed. He has luckily been free of limb breaks or knees issues and apart from a minor case of pancreatitis has been pretty well. However the costs that insurance did not cover have been high. As he is eight now, I pray he will continue well. |

| Every bout of pancreatitis cost between $600-900. I got her insurance when she was a pup with Trupanion but the third year they had increased so much that I changed to Pet Partners. Now they are getting ridiculous.

| Insurance Well perhaps with the deductible and copay, you might save by stopping insurance, but again who knows what the future brings? I used to have Trupanion and they were good at the start and said they did not increase fees with the age of the dog. But like you, the increases got really high and that is when I stopped. I could not go elsewhere with the past cataract and mild pancreatitis. My vet has a self insure-like deal where for $99 per year I get two free vet visits and rebates for what I spend there. I can redeem for vet services like dentals, shots etc. so that is all I have now. But it is good. Like all insurance, hope we never need it! |

| I have Nationwide pet insurance and could not be happier. I chose the more expensive whole health with wellness. I pay $74/mo for each of my boys. There is a $100 deductable and 90% reimbursement (I think it is around $65/mo with $200 deductable). Everything is covered and I get a check within 2 weeks. All of their wellness, heartworm, flea and tick prevention meds, shots, any illness, neuter, x-rays, all bloodwork ect. I do not worry about what I will do if something happens to my babies. Yes I pay for it but it is absolutely worth it. With their puppy appointments/shots, neuter and one trip to the vet when one was sick, I saved over $1000 last year. Will this happen every year, probably not but I rather pay a little every month for that peace of mind. |
