| Weight query. I am hoping to be a Yorkie mommy again soon. The baby I have an option is 5 weeks old and weighs 1 lb. Her mommy is 5lb while daddy is 4.4lb.is there a guide? What can I expect her adult weight to be? I'd be grateful for any guidance. Thank you. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. There is a good chance the pup will take after the parents in size, but there is also a chance the pup will grow larger. My boys are from the same parents, different litters. They grew larger than their parents and littermates. My boys are the oddballs of the bunch. There is a chart that shows typical growth patterns, but my boys did not follow it. There is also a general rule of doubling the weight at 12 weeks to guess adult size. My boys did not follow the chart or the rule.

| Thank you for the welcome and your response. My concern is that she is being labeled a teacup so the price is higher for her because she is smaller than her siblings. I know there is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie and that they are actually the runts of the litter so I am at pains to.pay an elevated price! |

| Appetite can also play a part- a hearty eater will be bigger/more solid. Sunny's mom was 8lbs & his dad 4 lbs; breeder predicted he would be in the 6lb range. He was biggest of his litter & is a voracious eater, hence he's in the 8-9lb range (can't know for sure as Mr. Squirmy refuses to stay still on the scale!). If we fed his as much/as often as he wanted he'd weigh a whole lot more, too. |

I also know a resident here who, surprisingly, has a yorkshire, not mixed with anything. He's just humongous. 20 pounds. He spent SO much money (this guy makes me giggle and irritated at the same time) for this guy he named after a marvel comic hero. Apparently had a "half teacup" (lol!) mother. If what he tells me is true, no way in heck should this sturdy fellow weigh this much, if you go by parents alone. *Disclaimer for those in the teapot club, and for a certain lady on here who had a gorgeous and sleek 17 pound gal, I only say I was surprised by our resident as I saw a judge judy case that was sold a yorkshire. This dog was very definitely NOT yorkshire, and this is despite the papers she had. Not only was it HUGE (I think he) just didn't have all the features. Same with resident's dog looking off. Just not as much as this one. Marvel hero is adorable, though. | |
